Jeremy Chinn exceeding expectations(draftnetwork breakdown)

The most important box that a rookie can check has been soundly checked by Chinn: he’s playing fast. The most common rookie hurdle, especially for a player in the defensive backfield like Chinn, is stagnant processing. Stunned by the flurry of action and souped-up speed of NFL offenses, it is not uncommon to see young defenders lag behind their teammates in their pace of play. I would argue that is part of Derrick Brown’s problem, as Brown—the Panthers’ first-round pick—is putting a lot of good reps on film, but is often a little bit late to trigger and execute. For a player of Chinn’s small-school background, tasked with the variety of alignments he’s been given by Phil Snow in the Panthers defense, some slow processing would be expected.

A bit of Brown criticism thrown in for fun.

Good read.

Reminds me of Luke/TD a bit in pursuit. Those guys popped off the screen when it came to closing the distance between them and the ball carrier.

Yes but I remember TD saw very limited snaps as a rookie and primarily in passing downs. He was drafted to “spy on week”. He was not this far along as a rookie.

Brown will not be a bust. He looked good last week and DT is a more difficult position to play

Brown could play at the same level he played at against the Chargers for the rest of his career and he would not be a bust. He would be a 5 year solid starter for the Panthers. However, it was only his 3rd game. I think we can expect much more.

Jaquiski Tartt & Miles Killebrew were two guys I REALLY wanted in the past few drafts and honestly think we found an even better version of them.  Okay maybe not Tartt yet but Chinn looks super promising.  Love the quickness/ability to close on tackles.  He's the one guy who's actually taking good angles and just stopping plays.

DEs like YGM can take time and Brown's impact may not show on the stat sheet but I was most excited about Chinn and still am.

The question for Brown is if he can develop a pass rush. He can be an elite 1T if he ever does. Certainly don’t think he would be like Aaron Donald, but if he can push the pocket from the inside with some consistency and get 5-6 sacks a year then I think you would be hard pressed to ask for anything more out of him. It’s great to see that he is already flashing the dominance against the run he showed in college.

Chin has a good shot at winning DROTY. Only problem is that he’s on the Panthers and won’t be as recognizable like Antoine Winfield Jr who’s also having a nice start to his rookie season but will be on a winning team in Tampa.

at the moment

1. Chase Young 2.5 sk, 1 ff

2. Antoine Winfield Jr. 23 tkl, 2 sk, 1 ff, 2 pd

3. Patrick Queen 21 tkl, 1 sk, 1 ff

4. Jermey Chinn 27 tkl

5. CJ Henderson 13 tkl, 1 int, 4 pd (rumour was Panthers would’ve drafted Henderson if Brown wasn’t available)

6. Jaylon Johnson 14 tkl, 5 pd

7. Kenneth Murray 23 tkl, 1 pd

Notables: K’lavon Chaisson, Trevon Diggs, Jeff Okudah, Damon Arnette, Javon Kinlaw, Derrick Brown

What about your boy Simmons?

    • Another layer to that is Ive seen Seattle has been in the market for CB help this off-season.   Michael had a higher PFF grade than Horn who got 15 games this season. He wants to be here too, that's a huge bonus for any 5 win team that had awful pass rush.  The 7th rounder Michael Barrett didn't last long on Seattle, he was cut before the season I think and ended up on browns PS. He's already been on 5.......5 teams within one year.......
    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
