Gurley was running fine all day. The only time the Falcons led was because he ran in that TD. Please note that that was his first 100 yard game since 2018. We also gave up his highest yardage total in 2019 (Brown’s highest total of the year as well), which ironically was 1 of 2 games Short played. I used those stats as part of the rebuttal to someone who wanted to keep Short this year who actually had the amazingly incorrect statement that we were a top 5 D before we lost Short last year.

When the DL looked different was when Burns and YGM went out and our pressure on Ryan diminished.

ehh i'll defer to you on this one

We can only save $14.5M. The other $13M we could have saved was this year’s salary. The $11M in dead cap that’s left can spread out over 2021 and 2022. That’s why I wanted to cut him before the year and eaten the $17M in dead cap. Instead we ate $30M in dead and new cap for 6 tackles, no TFLs and no sacks/QB hits. $13M extra and he didn’t even touch a guy behind the LOS. Nice.

you're right.

He missed 2 games in his first 6 seasons. He hardly has a crazy injury history.

I wasn’t thinking about his first 6 seasons when I said that, and I’m sure he isn’t either as he now has to look forward to year 9 for another opportunity to play again after playing just 5 games in the last 2 seasons.

Crazy is subjective..but I’m willing to bet even KK is thinking to himself how crazy the last few years have been for him dealing with injuries.

Not worth a back and forth but thought I’d clarify where I was coming from lol. Again, wish him well but I think his time here might be up.

I swear does anyone not named Aaron Charles Donald not live to their big money contract?? Bell just cut, got monies failed, we just played Gurley whom got monies and failed, David Johnson got monies, got traded and failed. Pathers signed Turmaine Johnson whom got monies and fail shortly after.  Alshon Jeffery got paid, got hurt, failed. Name hundreds more....

This has crossed my mind as well.  Just get young eager players and forget these huge contracts but for only a very select few.  It doesn't work out more than it does.

Just this team...M Kalil, Trai, KK, leaving out a ton others.

Ones we didn't sign...Norman, that G that went to Jax, etc

Would be hard to find a big money FA that worked!

The reason you would be hard pressed is because it's true.  Big money free agents are a fans pipe dream and an agents wet dream.  The fail rate has to be over 90% but I can't prove that.  Just from watching the game for 50 years I would struggle to come up with one example where it did work out.

Not really. He was easily released to save $13M this year and $13.5M next year. Marty not only restructured the deal, he kept him one (or two) years too long by doing that. Heck, we may keep him next year too, SMH. It was structured as a 3 year deal (got two solid years and 1 injury) and we restructured it into a 4-5 year deal.

Doesn’t change the fact that gettleman extended him while drafting a dt the same offseason he extended him.

To think we paid him over Star and then drafted Butler as “insurance”. What a fuging waste.

Can the Panthers, for once, get a competent GM in Carolina please?

Anyone that thought Butler was  insurance, is someone who believes whatever they tell themselves.

Butler was just another big man pick, which failed.
