There is no hint of this anywhere else.

If you search Curtis Samuel and Giants or Evan Engram and Panthers on twitter, nothing even pops up.  Couple other NFL sites etc. I use have nothing on this as well.

I can’t see us paying Samuel much this off season given he’s our WR3. There’s typically guys floating around every off season for cheap to fill that role. I will say I’ve been pleasantly surprised with Curtis this year though, he’s been very good for us. 

So if we’re not planning on signing Samuel anyways this trade does make sense. Engram had his 5th year option exercised I believe so he’s under contract for next year as well?

Not many TE’s scoring on end arounds in this league... would give Brady a red zone toy

For the "Brady doesn't use TEs" crew, keep in mind that Engram plays over half of his snaps either in the slot or split out wide. He basically plays as many snaps at WR as he does at TE. Hell, for all we know if this rumor is true we could be viewing Engram as more of a jumbo WR than a TE.

It actually seems like it might be something we're trying to do.  Curtis has had a few good games in a row here, which means his value is up.  If we are happy with losing him, getting an honest to goodness NFL TE wouldn't be heartbreaking.

I like Samuel but I'm for this trade. We need a redzone threat. 

Bonus that we get a 5th year option on Engram due to him being a 1st round pick.

If anything Engram might be exactly the type of TE that Brady wants.

The trade makes sense for us.  Most teams don't have the luxury of paying the 3rd receiver and that is looking like what would have to happen with Samuel next year.

Does the trade make sense for NY?  Do they have a capable TE behind Engram?

I would be all for this trade. I also see where Njoku wants out of Cleveland, I believe he can be really good if he goes to the right place.
