How much time is enough time to tell whether we've been snowed?

I admittedly pay more attention to the little nuances of the offense, but I ain't really feeling Phil Snow right now. I am not ready to essentially call him a bust (like I did after three or four games of seeing Shula orchestrate our offense), but I just don't know if dude is putting players in the best position to succeed. Gap integrity is lacking. Opposing receivers give "in the zone" a whole new meaning as they home in on the soft spots without much pushback. Don't get me wrong, I would like to see what Snow can accomplish with more talent in the middle and back of the defense, but it's not like we are totally bereft of talent, but it's midseason, and I want to start seeing some consistency. Perhaps more man coverage, schemes and blitzes might be in order. At this point, anything's worth a try. Bend-don't-break has never been my favorite defensive philosophy (or reality), especially when it appears you're getting lucky half the time. And there is little excuse for continual drive-extending penalties week after week. Snow needs to tighten up! I am trying to be patient, but if we're still looking the same this time next year, I'll be saying, "We can't let things snowball!"

He definitely has his flaws, but I think we need to give him a chance with an improved defensive roster. Our D is insanely young with many rookies contributing and on paper really should be a bottom 5 D. Yet, we rank in the top 15 in points allowed per game... The results in that regard speak for themselves as being very impressive considering the roster.

Of the issues on this team, I would put Phil Snow near the bottom of the list.

Seriously, I don't see how anyone else would make any better chicken salad out of the chicken ish that is this defense.

The defense kept it a 1-score game in spite of the offense shatting the bed the whole 2nd half and miserably losing the TOP battle.

I honestly think he has done an admirable job given all the variables.

I don't know how you can even begin to fully evaluate Snow until we can field a NFL-competent defense

It’s really hard to tell with so many rookies, terrible vets and injuries forcing backups to play to tell how Snow is doing. Our top CB plays about half the time because of his toe. The number 2 CB is on the covid list. The starting safety broke his ribs. The promising rookie DE who was starting to come into his own has a high ankle. The MLB is absolute garbage. The FS is terrible. We’ve lost the starting 3 tech DT and now the backup 3 tech is also out.

There isn’t a ton to work with there just from a pure talent perspective. That said it hasn’t exactly looked like the foundation is there for a great defense.

As much time as it takes to get him some better personnel.

I'd agree he has flaws, but it's really hard to judge him right now.

Just a guess, but some of these penalties may simply be players attempting to compensate for being overmatched rather than a lack of discipline.  Regardless, the penalties are killing this team, especially on third downs when they can't seem to close the deal and get off the field.

Bill Voth noted that of the six penalties called on us last night, five were on the defense.

We had on paper the absolute worst defense on paper going into the season.  We have since lost Short for the season, YGM and Burris are on IR, Douglas is out with Covid, Donte can't stay healthy, Whitehead is an abomination, Boston makes as many bad plays as good plays

Combine that with a short week where Kerr was also out, and we are starting a 4th round and UDFA rookie against Matt Ryan and Julio Jones, and this is what happens.

I think Snow should be closer to being coach of the year than being ran out of town

I don’t understand some of you people. It’s the youngest defense in a decade with no offseason. We are already playing better than last years defense even though we have half the talent, first year in a new system, and the two reasons also listed above. Give me a break...he is exceeding expectations this year. I expected us to be historically bad after watching last years squad and seeing who left in the offseason. Jackson with a bum toe was our number one starting cb yesterday....
