Don't like buying this season unless it's a young guy as a play for the future. Giving up draft capital for an established vet who could be gone in a year or two is pointless.

I agree, but Rasul Douglas is looking like a centerpiece for the future and we got him for nothing.  If there's something a scout sees that might fit in our system, might take a late round flyer and use the remainder of the season to evaluate for the future.

If we could get CJ Mosley from the Jets, it would plug a huge defensive hole for next year (he’s not playing this year for family/Covid reasons). I would do a 3rd rounder or so if they took on some of the cap. Might be completely unrealistic, but you asked :-)

I personally just feel they need to roll with what we have, win or lose. The fact is lasting upgrades at reasonable prices only come in the off-season

Especially at LB... you can find semi-competent LB starters pretty late in most drafts

If AZ would take a 5th or 6th for Reddick, I'd kick the tires. His contract expires this year, but if he succeeds here at OLB I think we could get a fair deal done. Giving him a shot of confidence and re-upping with Rhule/Snow could be just what he needs. Also moving Shaq inside and having a trio of Reddick-Shaq-Chinn could be a young, nasty and super-athletic unit. 

We'd probably recoup a 5th/6th/7th pick or two in the compensatory game too, I would assume.

I'd take Ian Thomas+5th for Zach Cunningham (Houston)

He's actually quite close to what we need.  Closes gaps quickly, plays tight zone, used to having increased responibilities with only 2 LBs nickel packages.  Houston plays variations of 4-3 and he could compliment Shaq a ton better than Whitehead.

 

Houston is selling for a retool around Watson.  If we're buying, that's exactly the type of player to target.

Reddick is playing like a stud now that he’s been moved to pass rushing LB to replace Chandler Jones. They will have no desire to trade him. He was never any good as an off ball LB and is refinding his form from college now that he’s moved back to the role he played at Temple. I just don’t think he’s a fit here. We need off bal LBs.

There's apparently a story going around that some NFL exec is saying the Texans are prepared to make five different trades before the deadline.

That sounds a little crazy.
