Matt Rhule on control

A related note of interest regarding a couple of front office guys...

In a recent article about upcoming GM candidates he was "hearing the most chatter about" (link) Jason La Canfora listed Panthers  Executive Director of Player Personnel Jeff Morrow and   Director of Player Negotiations / Salary Cap Manager Samir Suleiman as potential candidates for GM openings.

Mind you, he didn't actually talk about either of them outside of listing their names. They don't seem to be guys that are high on anyone's list, but might still be on the list.

Isn't Hurney the guy that basically showed Tepper around when he bought the team?  Maybe he just likes the guy, and wants to keep him around because he's a friend.

Seems like his overall impact is being reduced.  Maybe a GM offer from Washington would be attractive to him, if he was promised more control.  Although, that's probably just wishful thinking.

He’s right, the most consistently successful teams are built that way. They just have the rare peice to make it work. Hopefully Rhule is that peice.

Don’t see the harm in going that route, we’ve seen the other side of things. Except we don’t fire our shitty coaches, just wait and drag them a few years past their peak for some unknown reason. What’s the point in doing that again?

Of course what’s the point of Hurney either, who the hell knows at this point. He has redefined the word ‘interim’.

In that situation keeping Hurney would make a bunch of sence. He's the total yes man that everyone needs if they are going to micro manage everything. I also don't really agree with it. I think you need opposite thought and smart people around you to keep you away from yourself sometimes. You see how great NE is without Brady and how bad Pitt was without Big Ben. If Rhule is going to follow that formula he better get extremely good at evaluating QBs and as for Pitt get a great GM not Marty Hurney or it will look more like Bill O'Brien than Bill Belichick.

I don't know if he's ready or not, but it may not matter.

Person confirmed that he doesn't want the GM title or the day to day duties that go with it, but he doesn't need those things to be the center of the Panthers universe.

I would say he most certainly has final say on everything, but he does value the opinion and experience of Marty.

So Marty was there in Rhule's kitchen interviewing him.  Marty was eating meatballs and Rhule was explaining that he wants control. Marty kept eating meatballs because Tepper was smiling and nodding his head. The only thing Marty could control then was how many meatballs he was going to eat.

The fewer decisions Marty can make, the better as far as I am concerned. Not sure why he is still on the payroll...maybe to make things looks kind of normal for the 1st year.  I expect things to look differently this time next year.

According to reports, it was Marty that changed the meeting from a interview to a recruiting.

Maybe it was Marty playing some 3d chess, after all, he was the most skeptical about Rhule before the meeting.

He managed to fleece Rhule of all his meatballs!
Outsource his work to Rhule!
With Teppers liking and approval.
and still getting paid top dollars..!!

:omg:
