The NFL is planning to expand the regular season to 17 games in 2021 -- a historic move that would generate new revenue and could at least slightly soften an anticipated drop in the salary cap next year, sources say.

An announcement may not come for weeks, if not months, since the NFL must first negotiate at least one new media contract in order to make the move to 17 games in 2021, per the collective bargaining agreement. But as one team source apprised of discussions said: "We're all anticipating it's going to happen."

In turn, the preseason would be cut to either two or three games. There still would be one bye week per club, extending the total regular season to 18 weeks and pushing back the Super Bowl into the second week of February.

2 preseason games, an extra regular season game, and a larger roster?

I can be on board with this.

2 preseason games is more than enough. In hindsight it's actually hard to believe that there were 4 preseason games every year for so long. That is 25% of a full season...

I always thought I’d was absolutely ridiculous. Don’t teams have scrimmages with other teams on their own time anyways? I agree.

It will be interesting to see who that extra team will be.  Currently we play another NFC conference plus the same position in the place the standing of the other two conferences.   Once AFC conference and I would assume it will be on a rotationing basis of another AFC conference with the same position in the conference.  (ie. 4th place playing 4th place)

    • The little fella will be here for 2 more seasons. This talk all seems so premature.
    • So looking at the current standings we are 15th in draft order.  Several teams will probably pass us especially if we actually lose out. There are 3 teams that most definitely will be drafting a QB Jets, Raiders and Saints  Cardinals (Murray), Dolphins (Tua) and Houston (Stroud) with question marks Browns Gabriel and Sanders but maybe they jump on another QB if they get high pick Titans (Ward), Commanders (Daniels), Falcons (Penix) Giants (Dart) Vikings (McCarthy) all young QBs but most likely wont' be drafting a QB.  Dallas (Dak) and Bengals (Burrow) doubtful I doubt Jets, Raiders and Saints surpass us in wins. So we'd be in the window for the 4th best QB in a bad QB class.
    • Just curious how many conversations you’ve had about banning op or is it just people whose opinions you generally disagree with like Icege. You seem more than happy to agree with trolling and dead threading when it aligns with your opinions. OPs post history is 10x worse than people you’ve banned or talked about banning. On the topic of Bryce Young, heading into the season a lot of people wanted to see is Bryce Young the guy moving forward, or isn’t he? I think the question has been answered in that he is not. That’s actually worse for the Panthers than if he built on his performances at the end of last season and became the guy, but you wouldn’t know that by how some here are acting. Pretty well confirms that some on this board would rather be right about an opinion that would be bad for the team, than watch the team succeed. Weird how OP only shows up once a year after the QB and Panthers absolute worst performances…
