REPORT: Nick Caserio: Texans have “zero interest” in trading Deshaun Watson

This could get ugly. They just need to part ways.

It was always going to get ugly. The Texans don't want to move a 25 year old elite franchise QB. If he's going to get moved they're going to force him to be the bad guy so they can spin it to their fanbase that they moved him because they want guys who want to be there. Trade compensation won't be an issue. He's a 25 year old elite franchise QB. Those guys just don't become available. There will be no shortage of potential suitors.

Looks like worst case scenario. Watson is done but someone/s with the team can't back down. What a mess. No one is giving what they asked and it looks like Houston is dumb enough to make him sit. Bell did it, every indication is Watson could.

Hell, Houston isn't even talking to people about what they're willing to offer.

Plus they're currently building the coaching staff, and will likely build their roster, with the idea that Watson is their quarterback.

If this changes at all, and it might not, it won't be anytime soon.

It'll change. Those who really want him are going to have to be patient. Are Panthers fans willing to roll the dice and and risk being stuck with Teddy for another year? This will likely linger way past the draft.

I doubt that. If he gets moved it'll be before the draft, but there's still a month and a half before he can actually be traded so might as well use that time to try to work things out.

If Houston 100% is against trading him, heres what Watson could/should do. At some point you have to report. Then play terrible, each bad week, his values drops. So Houston at that point has to either bench him or trade him before his value gets lower. Bold move, dont know if Watson has it in him to pull that off.

Somebody mentioned this idea earlier in the thread.

I pointed out that doing such a thing comes with the very real possibility of pissing off your teammates who would actually like to win games and aren't necessarily up for the idea of tanking an entire season just so you can get a better job somewhere else.

And if you should happen to piss off the offensive line guys who are supposed to be protecting you from getting killed, well...that's a bit of a dangerous game.

It also would probably turn off a lot of head coaches.

Can't have a franchise QB acting like that to get his way.

Rhule wouldn't have it.

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
