Hopium - We might have a shot at Sewell

Recommended Posts

It's a shytty dilemma for us.  Do we wait the Watson legal issues out, even if it means getting him next year.  Do we forego Watson and take one of the QBs available if they happen to fall to 8.

I think Tepper wants Watson and will wait this issue out. That said I think we'll build the best team we can around whatever QB we put on the field, even if it means Teddy B again.

If Slater or Sewell is  there at 8 I think we can take him.  However, trading down might not be a bad idea either.

I just hope the draft gets here soon before half this forum has an aneurism.

I dream of the day when I hear the announcers say: “Carolina has one of the best offensive lines in the league.”

if a top LT is there, we need to take him.  Then draft a G or CB in round two.  Trade for Darnold or Minshew and have open competition in camp at QB.  Maybe even draft a QB in rounds 3-5 and let them join the fray.

you can find plenty of examples of game manager QB teams who did well, and even won the Super Bowl. We saw with Cam that even one hole in the OL can neutralize a great QB.

Heck we saw it with Mahomes this year.  Mike Remmers killed two teams chances at Super Bowls.  A great OL can make an average QB look good.  A bad OL can make an all pro look like crap.

Just by sitting calmly and letting the nervous and desperate shake things out ahead of us, we will come out with the best of the bunch.

It's #8, not #29.

CMC came to us at #8 (and y'all laughed when I said that would be our pick) and Luke came to us at #9 (and people went, why? who?). Jordan Gross was our #8 pick, as was Biakabutuka (well, he could have been great). And we grabbed Derrick Brown last year at #7.

It's a good place to be in the draft, act like it.

we could really shore up our OL in a hurry this draft, if we forego the QB for another season. if we do, and have another good all around draft, we could be looking at legit being a QB away from deep runs. then, we can consider trading a ton of future picks for the final piece.

That’s where I’m at. OL galore. Just draft them all and let’s check off that huge box.

Eric Fisher got abused by the Bucs in the first game! He wasn't the magic elixir that was going to help them win against that outstanding defense. Remmers didn't play well, but the Bucs made a lot of good tackles look pretty bad.

    • Here's my deal. I hate the whole "Alpha" bullshit, because it has been turned into an act, a marketing ploy and a wonky set of qualifications. What I think you need as a QB for your team is the happy, smart leader that brings his teammates along rather than throwing them on his back. And they need to be a stone cold killer when they get to the field. As much as I dislike the guy, it's Brady over the Mannings. It's Montana over Marino. It's Bradshaw over Staubach.  And here's the one that'll get me killed around here: It's Jake over Cam.
    • Joe Burrow hasn't played for three quarters of the season and very little in the pre-season. He comes back and posts some very good numbers and leads his team to victory. That's what a #1 franchise QB should be doing, not whatever is going on here. The eye test doesn't lie. Throw out the rose colored glasses and believe what your eyes are telling you. Five more games and then a decision needs to be made on a certain players permanent status.  Do what is right for the team and fiqure out how to improve that one very critical position. Please don't fug it up this time.
    • I’m all for bringing a QB in but who? The FA list is ass. The draft class isn’t great I’d take a flier on Trey Lance and if available in 4th someone like Leavitt or Mateer? I never wanted Dalton back especially at the contract Dan gave him. He’s utterly useless on the field and his cap hit isn’t nothing. He provides nothing.  There’s a lot of bad QB play this year and passing is down. Guys worth trading for are most likely not going to get traded.  As much as many of you don’t want to hear it our best option is to decline the 5th year option. Give Bryce 2026 while we have him under contract. Then in 2027 either sign Bryce (tag would be an option. Don’t repeat the Darnold mistake) or draft another QB and do it all again
