Hopium - We might have a shot at Sewell

Recommended Posts

It's a shytty dilemma for us.  Do we wait the Watson legal issues out, even if it means getting him next year.  Do we forego Watson and take one of the QBs available if they happen to fall to 8.

I think Tepper wants Watson and will wait this issue out. That said I think we'll build the best team we can around whatever QB we put on the field, even if it means Teddy B again.

If Slater or Sewell is  there at 8 I think we can take him.  However, trading down might not be a bad idea either.

I just hope the draft gets here soon before half this forum has an aneurism.

I dream of the day when I hear the announcers say: “Carolina has one of the best offensive lines in the league.”

if a top LT is there, we need to take him.  Then draft a G or CB in round two.  Trade for Darnold or Minshew and have open competition in camp at QB.  Maybe even draft a QB in rounds 3-5 and let them join the fray.

you can find plenty of examples of game manager QB teams who did well, and even won the Super Bowl. We saw with Cam that even one hole in the OL can neutralize a great QB.

Heck we saw it with Mahomes this year.  Mike Remmers killed two teams chances at Super Bowls.  A great OL can make an average QB look good.  A bad OL can make an all pro look like crap.

Just by sitting calmly and letting the nervous and desperate shake things out ahead of us, we will come out with the best of the bunch.

It's #8, not #29.

CMC came to us at #8 (and y'all laughed when I said that would be our pick) and Luke came to us at #9 (and people went, why? who?). Jordan Gross was our #8 pick, as was Biakabutuka (well, he could have been great). And we grabbed Derrick Brown last year at #7.

It's a good place to be in the draft, act like it.

we could really shore up our OL in a hurry this draft, if we forego the QB for another season. if we do, and have another good all around draft, we could be looking at legit being a QB away from deep runs. then, we can consider trading a ton of future picks for the final piece.

That’s where I’m at. OL galore. Just draft them all and let’s check off that huge box.

Eric Fisher got abused by the Bucs in the first game! He wasn't the magic elixir that was going to help them win against that outstanding defense. Remmers didn't play well, but the Bucs made a lot of good tackles look pretty bad.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
