They coulda stayed at 12 and got Jones. They're looking at someone else.

My bet is on Lance and they are putting up an elaborate smokescreen for some reason.  Shanahan's system requires an athletic QB.  That does not scream Mac Jones to me.

The only reason I can think of that they have to keep up such an elaborate smokescreen is in the VERY SLIM chance the Jets trade out of #2 to throw off a team like the Panthers who was in full force at Lance's pro day.

He will not be.  The Bengals are a lock to take him.  They've got a QB there, and just spent part of a season with him on IR because they didn't protect him.

There's a tooooon of noise that if the Falcons don't take him, Pitts might be the pick.

Mac Jones is safer than Fields.

Fields is like a flashy sports car.  He looks good in the highlights but when you really look in to him he is not reliable at all, makes constant mental mistakes, and underperformed massively considering all the talent around him.

Mac Jones may be a Honda Civic but sometimes that's all you need.

    • Care to elaborate why you disagree? We kicked the ball off 3 times and we kept the Browns to starting field position of the 22, 27, and 10 (would have been 21 before a penalty). All 3 of those are successes with the modern kickoff rule.
    • Its August so obviously quality options are not there. The question is whether any improvement can be made to the bottom of the depth chart.
    • NFL has a huge amount of parity.  The talent level between most NFL starters outside of the top 5 to 10 guys at a position is very comparable.  2020 worst teams Jacksonville Jaguars - 1-15 (worst record in NFL) New York Jets - 2-14 Cincinnati Bengals - 4-11-1 Atlanta Falcons - 4-12 Houston Texans - 4-12 Carolina Panthers - 5-11 Detroit Lions - 5-11 Philadelphia Eagles - 4-11-1 Los Angeles Chargers - 7-9 Denver Broncos - 5-11 2024 Worst teams New York Giants - 3-14 (tied for worst) Cleveland Browns - 3-14 (tied for worst) Tennessee Titans - 3-14 (tied for worst) New England Patriots - 4-13 Carolina Panthers - 5-12 Jacksonville Jaguars - 4-13 Las Vegas Raiders - 4-13 New York Jets - 5-12 Chicago Bears - 5-12 Arizona Cardinals - 8-9 Bengals, Texans, Lions, Eagles, Broncos and the Jags have all made the the playoffs in the last 3 years. What I'm saying is it's stupid to argue when team is the worst when there is so much parity and the system allows quick turnarounds.
