Ian Rappoport: Multiple teams interested in trading for Teddy Bridgewater

I think he gets cut too, BUT look at this -   https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/carolina-panthers/

Look below the dead cap and saving column. Change it to post june trade....

You see the difference in dead space is 20 and 5 million? Of course panthers will have to eat some salary, but thats why they want to trade him.

Cap saving if cut= 3 million.

Cap saving if traded 18 million.

(number would change some for a new contract)

Thats why I mention to @SizzleBuzz things could get messy, cause we're talking about huge differences in a tight year. Still think he gets cut, but you see why they want to trade him. May have to add a draft pick like 4th+Teddy for Denvers' 7th to get the dead/saving benefits. Post June for sure.

No question that of those two options the team would prefer to trade but no one is trading for him and taking that full cap hit this year (or next for that matter); I'd bet that's been a hurdle in any talks thus far. Carolina is likely going to have to eat an appreciable amount of his contract this year, is not most of it, to facilitate a trade and the next team is likely only viewing it as a one-year deal where they'll have some dead money if they cut him. Not a great contract from the start that's unfortunately played out in a worst-case scenario fashion and certainly wasn't helped by the team's public negativity at the start of the offseason.

They will work out a deal with Teddy. Teddy will get his $10 mil, maybe a little more from the Panthers and then be traded with a lower cap hit for the new team. Everybody wins including Teddy. They probably are bluffing to keep him to get Teddy to redo his contract and get out. That's huge difference and they don't want TB signing him.

At this point I'd be surprised to see him moved prior to the draft. If that was going to happen I think it already would have. Maybe a team that strikes out in the draft will make a move for Teddy or maybe a team that drafts a Kellen Mond/Davis Mills level QB prospect will make a move for Teddy as a stop gap wet nurse. FWIW, I think we might be a team that drafts a Kellen Mond/Davis Mills level QB prospect.

I have a feeling Teddy is going to be the backup this season. Costs too much to trade or release.

You looked at the contract?

Stays on the roster, you have a 23M cap hit, cut as a June 1, you have a 10M cap hit...in a cap condensed year, it would be idiotic to keep him on the roster.

We are going to have to pay to trade him, or more than likely cut him.

Agree that Teddy will be on the Panthers roster, and if Teddy’s on the roster he will start most of the games because there’s no way Sam will be more effective than Teddy would be.

Trading him pre-6/1 saves just under 13 million on the 2021 cap. Trading post 6/1 saves just under 18 million on the 2021 cap. There is a significant incentive to trade

Cutting him at worst saves nearly 3 million pre 6/1. Post 6/1 release saves just under 8 million.

Not sure if we have already used up our post June 1 designations

You’re trying way too hard at trolling.

When do we expect some news on moving Teddy?

12-days until the draft...

No idea, but if Denver lands a early QB in the draft.....that may kill the only hope to trade him. Been nice to move Teddy in the Darnold deal, to mentor Wilson, but it seems the Jets wanted no part. (they did trade him to saints for a 3rd a couple years ago)

I can't imagine why.
