What are some examples of QBs who were once considered huge busts, but revived their career on another team?

Jim Plunkett.

He won the Heisman Trophy at Stanford in 1970. He went to a pretty poor Patriot team and played there from 1970-1975. He was traded to the 49ers and played there for two season (1976-1977).

He ended up with the Raiders in 1978 but saw no significant playing time until Dan Pastorini got hurt in 1980 and Plunkett finished out the season. The Raiders won the Super Bowl that year. They won it again in 1983 against a Redskin team that at the time was the highest scoring team in league history.

His career win mark was only 72-72, but he was 8-2 in playoff games.

PS...Plunkett (1970) and Roger Staubach (1963) are the only two Heisman QB's to win Super bowls. In fact, until Mayfield and Jackson played each other last year on a MNF game, the only other time it had ever happened was a 1977 game between the Cowboys and 49ers.

Nearly every QB drafted in the top 3 goes to a terrible team [otherwise the team never would have been in position to have such a high draft pick].

Franchise QBs find a way to elevate disastrous franchises. Cam Newton went to a 1-15 team Hurney had sabotaged and instantly lifted them to contention.

Perhaps Darnold's situation was a little worse than normal, but he showed nothing to indicate he had a future in this league.

You're not factoring in the horrible coaching situations and how young Darnold was when he was thrown to the wolves.

They have 0 first round picks left from the past 8 years. They made Bell look terrible because they have no line and no weapons. I agree, but this team was a disaster led by Adam Gase who is rightfully fired. Pull up his 2019 stats just over 3000 yards, 21 total TDs, 62% completion, 13 INTs all in 13 games played 84.3 rating. Considering his situation that’s not too bad.

precedents for this - good or bad - narrow substantially when you control for his situation, which is getting traded partway through a rookie deal.

Teddy makes Dalton look like Dan Fouts lol

Darnold and Dalton are very similar

What is their game is remotely similar? Their hair color? Dalton is a conservative game manager and Darnold’s issues are making bad reads/throws with bad footwork. He can make all the NFL throws, Dalton can’t. That’s what he was 3rd overall vs Dalton being a 2nd rounder. His potential is far greater, unfortunately so is his floor.

Brett Favre, Steve Young, Alex Smith, Brad Johnson, Rich Gannon and Jim Plunkett among others.

And Drew Brees wasn't anything special in San Diego. That's why they drafted Philip Rivers.

Yeah I was going to say Brees but there was the injury issue. Though if he was the Brees we know now hey wouldn't have moved on.
