I think every QB the Panthers have ever had were painful to watch in one way or another. I don’t think Darnold was any less. He’s 23, becoming an adult will help.

Agreed.

Among the long time starters, Steve Beuerlein, Rodney Peete and Jake were tolerable to decent public speakers.  All the rest of our starters would've benefitted greatly from joining Toastmasters.

Delhomme was great. Beuerlein and Peete were good. Everybody else? Oy.

But as others have said, they're not hired to do PR. As long as they can perform on the field, I don't care if they look like awkward sixth graders in front of a mic.

Going to be a long season. Half this board has already written this kid off.

And half this boards opinion would amount to zero in the grand scheme of things. Critical people are going to do what they do best and that is bitch, piss and moan until they find a new target to criticize.

I see a lot of fans get their heart set on one player, and then when we don't get that player they basically throw a tantrum and say everybody and everything sucks.

The reality is there's not just one answer to a given question.

True.

While Darnold certainly wasn't hired for his Q&A prowess, he should have enough money squirreled away by now to afford a public speaking coach.  If I were Tepper, I'd hire one for him ASAP.  Shouldn't take too much effort to clean up his verbal pauses and it would make his press conferences a lot less painful to endure.

He's 23 years old and plays in a league where grown men pound each other into soil for amusement. Is it really that big of a deal?

    • When I tell people I was at that game, they usually say oh that’s so cool you had the experience. I call it soul crushing. Why? The weeks and months leading up to it were great, the team was fun to watch every week…some weeks the offense was unstoppable and carried the team (saints and giants road games), other times the defense carried the load (jaguars, tampa). Lots of back and forth games against good teams (Seattle and Indy). Good young players on the team, but the veteran leadership was incredible…from Cam, Olsen, Kalil and J Stew to Luke, TD, Norman, Tillman, Jared Allen, CJ. Role players like Fozzy Whitaker, Cotchery (he caught that MFer), Philly brown, Kyle love, AJ Klein, and so on.  The Friday before the nfc championship my wife and I after a few drinks said let’s see what prices look like for flights/accommodations and we got to talking about how much prices would increase if we waited until we found out if we would be in the big game. We said screw it, we are only out $200 if we have to cancel.  Of course we come out and just pulverized the cardinals in front of the most raucous crowd by far we’ve ever had. We had no idea what we would do for game tickets and then found out a neighbor who worked for the team could get us 2 for face value (each employee got two of their own for free, something cool that JR did).  But then the NFL mafia decided that the storyline of manning going out on top like Elway would give them more goodwill than a non traditional QB who didn’t connect with their target demo and the rest is history. I never have and never will watch that game again. I am just hoping I can see them win one in the 2nd half of my life.
    • Dude you are smart fan. 3 on 0 breakaways won’t matter who is in net. You gotta be better on this one.
    • Raiders are gonna get a good one. Rather have Mendoza fly out and play for the Panthers tomorrow than Bryce
