Chinn needs to be a safety. We haven’t had a good safety since Mike Minter. We finally hit pay dirt and now we want to make him a linebacker. I just don’t know.

Sam Franklin showed a lot of promise last year.  Looks like that puts an end to anyone wanting Micah Parsons.

He played a lot of linebacker last year more out of our necessity than his preferred position. He is more of a natural safety and would be our version of Earl Thomas or Ed Reed. I think we will use him as a hybrid but put him more at safety if our linebacking corps is improved.

Chinn isn't very good in coverage wouldn't call him Earl or Ed... ever

He is a second year player so of course he isn't playing at an all pro level yet. But his athleticism and nose for being around the ball and his hard hitting reminds me of those guys. Hopefully he has the career those guys did.

Preseason depth chart and position labels mean nothing right now in regard to special players like Chinn.   I for one see linebacker Corp as a decent group.  Reddick, Perryman and Shaq backed up by Carter Jr, Luvu, Mack and Miller is solid.   I think safety will be a more likely use of a higher draft pick.  Burris and Franklin as back ups for Chinn and Grant, sign me up for that pairing.  I do think they could add a linebacker ( KJ Britt or Ernest Jones) for special teams and to develop.  Jabril Cox, Bolton, Moses or Pete Werner would all be great additions earlier but Perryman should be what we thought we were getting with Whitehead and more.

He would fill the Kam Chancellor role better in my eyes

    • I think the ‘issue’ here is that we had two guys that clashed for several reasons. In some ways they were different, but in other ways they had a lot in common, and sadly they couldn’t see the forest for the trees. Sometimes when you have two people like that together they are either going to love or hate each other, and if it’s the latter, you need someone to mediate and hope the two individuals are capable of putting their differences aside for the common good. In this instance, they couldn’t find a way to move forwards together because I don’t think either guy wanted to play second fiddle to the other. This video basically said neither guy had the tools to bridge that gap and mend that fence, and perhaps also were unwilling to give an inch at that stage in their lives and careers. So a divorce, while unfortunate, was always likely. Do we win the Super Bowl with Smitty and Cam? Well, it’s one of life’s big what ifs for us Panthers fans.
    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
