Is Sam Darnold a 1-Year Rental?

One thing I don’t like is how our OC is projected to leave for a HC job next season. So where does that leave Darnold again?

That depends on who would replace him.  And, of course, whether he actually does leave.  I don't think we saw anything out of him last year that would scream that he is the next can't-miss head coaching prospect.  If anything, I think we saw every indication he is a few years away.

But, assuming he does leave, if they find someone of with the same philosophy or look at promoting somebody from the current staff (Nixon or Lombardi would probably be two most likely candidates), it might be status quo for Darnold.....or Fields.....or whoever.

It is not ideal.  You like to see young QBs with continuity in who is developing them.  We have seen young QBs in places never get off "go" because it seemed like they had seven DCs or QB coaches in three years.

You don't pick up his option until after the draft. Need teams to believe you will take a QB.

This.

it’s the same reason we haven’t picked up Moore’s.

Want to keep other teams in the dark on our move/plans

Here is why it is stupid to do it now---if you are bluffing about a QB, you do not lock in Darnold yet when you can do it after the draft.

If you take a QB, you do not want to be locked in.  There is no advantage to doing it before the draft.  None.

new browns. stop the bleeding. cut him and teddy. trade back. go 0-17. draft whoever. then do it again the year after and the year after. b/c it's already leaning that direction under tepper.

You know you can’t be honest around here. Just wait until how miserable this place gets what’s the season starts.

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
