Chase Blackburn Presser

We have discussed the possible future competition at Kicke in another thread.. Some other points of Note from Blackburn's Presser:

- David Moore and CJ Saunders are top returners right now. Shi Smith has been hurt so has not had as many reps (especially at PR). Trenton Cannon has took reps as KR. DJ Moore and CMC both still taking reps as returners

- Joe Charlton really improving as a holder. Blackburn hinted at some troubles there for him last year that could have impacted Joey Slye's performance

- JJ versus T-Fletch. Both are playing well. The competition is real. T-Fletch is as good as JJ at snapping but has some setbacks learning protections. It seems about neck and neck now as Fletcher is improving with protection.

I feel like we’ll put Fletcher on the practice squad this year and let JJ ride into the sunset after the season.  I remember seeing somewhere that he wasn’t sure if he wanted to come back, but ended up signing the 1 year deal.

I’m hoping Shi Smith can be our return guy.  Sucks he’s been hurt, he has a lot of potential.

Apparently Chubba got some reps here too.

It's hard to imagine using a PS spot for a snapper, (and there's always a risk of a "Butker part 2" - though presumably demand for snappers isn't as high as for kickers) - but in this instance, I'd agree it might be a good option.  Let Fletcher learn from JJ for a season and let JJ play out his contract.

I also hope Shi can be our returner. He seems like he could be a weapon for us, something we haven't really had consistently in the return game for awhile.

I really doubt he makes it through wavers.

The Butker horse has been beat to death. He missed 6 xps last season. He is not some great all pro kicker. Is he better than Slye, sure, but its not the end of the world. Let it go.

Epic waste of a 7th round pick.

Lol

6th. If you are going to draft a long snapper and not use him, try to stash him, and lose him then it is a waste.

Drafting a LS at all is questionable. But certainly if the above happens

LOL

    • After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs. First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.  The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts. Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future. Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it. Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.  On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.        ...
    • Canes are so fascinating. Despite inconsistent defense and poor goalie play they keep winning.
    • I like Morgan's approach but I'll wait for a few winning seasons before giving too much praise.
