Newman seems to have spent the last few years effectively self-destructing.

I can't fathom him being cut during Minicamp.

He's done in the NFL - or the Eagles are just an incredibly dysfunctional franchise.

I don't know what he should've done, but damn... he certainly played his cards as poorly as he possibly could have. He went from being a good QB on a bad team and assumed mid-round pick with the ability to possibly play his way into 1st or 2nd round consideration to going undrafted and not even making it to training camp for a team whose QB room is a dumpster fire. Transferring and then option to sit out then going to the draft and bombing the pre-draft process... I mean damn, it was tough to watch. You're watching a talented kid basically flush his future down the toilet with a series of awful decisions.

I am not real shocked by Newman being released so quickly, I never thought he was NFL QB talent.

Not sure he was good enough to beat out Bennett at UGA.

But I am shocked the Eagles released Trevon Grimes so quickly, since Brian Johnson is the reason Grimes signed there.

Seems that would  have gotten him past mini camp. Must have had a bunch of drops on bad throws from Newman.

Early in the draft mock season last year, he was Georgia's starting QB and on some first round lists.

He is from Graham, NC.  I have family there---they are so disappointed right now.

That might go down as being the regret of Newman's life, not playing that season. I hate that it turned out this way. Decisions have consequences.

Definitely sucks for the guy. Hopefully, other players will take note and reconsider putting “me” first and finishing it out. He should have stayed at Wake Forest!

Albert Breer wrote a few paragraphs about Newman in his latest Game Plan column.

Apparently, when Newman opted out of the season and declared for the NFL Draft in the same day, he had essentially bought into his own hype.

Turned out the NFL didn't think nearly as much of him as Newman thought they did.

(and it would seem they think even less of him now)

Will Grier is probably the one penciled in to the practice squad developmental QB spot.

How about the panthers make a cat bro trade with jags for Gardner Minshew, 6th or 5th is what the price is. Cut Grier and let him go do the cry part like most Instagram stars do in the cycle, he could milk it for months. Walker is now your PS guy.

Only issue I see........Minshew would beat out Darnold thus making the panthers trade a 2+ for the backup........BUT only a 6th for the starter and hes cheap too...

He could not make it through OTAs with a team that has Jalen Hurts and Joe Flacco with nobody else. Not sure he is a good pickup for anybody at this point.

Its weird cause Gil Brandt said he hear good reports, then a couple days later cut. PS is not big time stuff, you mainly play the role of that weeks QB on the scout team. Learn lots of plays and get time against the 1s. Not bad for someone like Newman, it does hurt bad when you are a OTA cut....even more while its at a teams weak spot too. But many times players are cut not cause of skill or talent, it could hes a jerk, pissed off the wrong person, late to a meeting, fought with a important teammate, gambled, walks around naked too much, smells bad, etc etc.

I'm inclined to disagree. He can't even make it through OTAs. That's a bad sign.

Do the panthers have a better QB room than the eagles?.....I think both are fighting for the 32nd spot(along with Denver).... Plus Im talking PS only here, not even 3rd string. Tho I think with a couple months on this team, he could surpass both Walker and/or Grier .....but that gos for about any QB with my feelings on those two.

Need to trade for Gardner Minshew, price is cheap and so is his sal for 2 years.

What makes you think that JAX will trade a good backup, with starting experience, and on a rookie deal for a 5th or less?

    • Great season regardless of what happens. From starting out 4-14 to ending 44-38 is incredible progress and future is bright from here. I do think we can beat the Heat and then win on the road against either Orlando or Philly assuming Embiid doesn’t miraculously return sooner. But if not, a higher draft pick is nice too
    • I know a DT that's asking for a trade: 🤔 maybe a home discount can be worked out. Dan Morgan could create up to $80 million in space through restructures of stars like Derrick Brown, Jaycee Horn, or Taylor Moton. They could also include players like Tershawn Wharton ($18.6M cap hit) in the trade to balance the salaries. Carolina Receives: DT  Dexter Lawrence II New York Receives: 2026 2nd Round Pick (No. 51 Overall): A premium Day 2 selection that fits the for  Lawrence  after his 0.5-sack season in 2025. WR  Xavier Legette : A young, high-upside receiver who provides the playmaking depth HC John Harbaugh needs for his offense. 2026 4th Round Pick: Immediate mid-round value. 2027 4th Round Pick (via MIN): Future capital acquired in the  Adam Thielen  trade.  ----- Stone Forsythe* (another young player as a potential trade option)provides immediate offensive line retooling for HC John Harbaugh.    John Harbaugh's history in Baltimore proves he values draft volume over individual superstars.    Just my 2cents
    • Moved to Tuesday, not Wednes because of scheduling with Flyers game or something in Philly. But I don't feel good about the Heat.  It has been a great season regardless.  Team just been playing so hard to move up since a bad start and just picked a bad time to get gassed.  It's like almost everyone is shooting cold at the same time even wide open shots.   Maybe atmosphere and playoffs kick off a spark.  I'd rather be in a series than a one and done though. The team has a good foundation to build on regardless of what happens.
