It really all hinges on Darnold. If McCaffrey stays healthy and the running game is strong, that should open up a lot of play action and "safe" chances for Darnold to play safe football. He'll need to take risks down field, that's why they acquired him over Bridgewater, but those chances are meant to be risky.

I've been thinking about this.  Our YBC dropped off a cliff last season.   We had been top of the league for years all the way to 2019.  Then in 2020 we were bottom of the league.

Was it the new scheme, oline performance, Davis run path choices, or some combination?

If it was oline, or scheme, we may have a problem.

Anything less than 30 tds is a significant downgrade from Watson

and if Darnold doesn’t clean up his mistakes he’s as good as gone

sorry but that’s the way the cookie crumbles, especially with this regime

Would like to add that I’m very excited about this defense flying around

How do we downgrade from a player on another team?

He broke 30 once. His career high is 33. He typically throws mid 20s.

Idk what the time table is for the deshaun watson situation but he might still end up here

Was basically a done deal before the news broke

This team with him at the helm is an actual Super Bowl contender

Say what?

Bump. Because I've been thinking about this as well. With all the stuff we have been talking about to help make Sam successful this year. There is one that seems to be forgotten. Play Action.

Last year, for Dlines, it was stop the run on the way to the passer. PA was no deterrent at all. Whether it was the Oline, the RB, or even the QB. For us it just didn't work.

This year, with Cmac back. PA should be much, much more effective. Even if Cmac is not being effective, just the threat of him running should give Sam and extra 1/2 second or so.

Point being, Dlines can no longer stop the run on the way to the QB. Cuz if you don't make the tackle, there's a chance nobody does.

That address stops by the line, but a lot of run stops are done by fast LBs (like TB).

I think  Tremble tremble will help get to that second level.

One of BC's strength is getting to the second level as well.

With CMC's vision and shiftiness, I hope to see a rebound in YBC.

    • LOL! We have ourselves a funny one over here.
    • That’s why I love Jake and always will.  He was so fuging gritty and definitely was a gunslinger.  Like a not-quite-poor-man’s Brett Favre.  Like an economy version lol.  He was damn good.  Yeah, he’d throw a pick here or there, but more often than not, I trusted Jake.  He’d make some throws that really made you think, “damn, he’s even better than I thought.”  I loved that he loved to gamble, but more importantly, he gave his guys a fuging chance to make a play.  When people have been criticizing Tet for drops, it pisses me off, because they say it like these are some gimmes that he’s dropping.  but, at about 6’5”, if your whole body is moving one way and you have to stop or slow down to come back to a ball thrown behind you, or low, that poo is not easy.  Bryce isn’t really giving him a chance, and I can see why he’s dropping them.  Versus if you look at this highlight reel of Moose: at about halfway through is when Jake stepped in.  The passes he was throwing are CRAZY.  There’s multiple passes in there where he is throwing across his body while running the opposite way - and he still had the strength to get it on target.  Then there’s the throws where he lasers it in a spot only the receiver could get it - seam routes, out routes, over the top. The longer you watch, the more obvious it is that so many of these (what should be basic) throws are completely absent from our offense with Bryce.  There was a play today where he started to scramble, kept looking, looking, looking, then just threw it into the ground near the receiver.  Let them make a fuging play.  His best pass of the day?  The long one to Tet?  If you re-watch it. About 10-15 yards further downfield, XL smoked his man on a post route.  You get maybe 3 chances at that a game usually, and when you don’t even attempt it when it’s there?  That poo is so demoralizing.  I can’t wait for Bryce’s time here to be fuging over.  If they cut him tomorrow I would feel free.  I would feel like I just won the fuging powerball.  If they signed Heineke, Perkins, White, PJ Walker, or Hooker to start the rest of the year, I would be fuging ecstatic like we just trotted Cam out for the first time.  That how fuging life-sucking Bryce is as the QB.
    • Aren't they about the same size too? Why TF are teams all of sudden drafting these small ass QBs that have an EXTREMELY low hit rate at an already extremely low hit rate position?
