Darnold was the "bird in the hand"

Most people have two hands.

Could also "lend a hand" and both of the two in the bushes would quickly be caught.

Yes, I had to Google "bird in the hand"...

I hope Darnold was the right decision.

There's always that contingent that trips all over themselves for a chance to say "I told you so".

We also saw the flip side to that any time our last franchise quarterback had a bad pass or lost a game. Welcome to sports.

The will be the partial fallacy in comparing the trade though. It isn’t just Fields vs Darnold. It’s Fields vs Darnold + Horn. Let’s say Fields comes out and puts up good rookie numbers. Let’s say he throws 23 TDs and rushed for 3 TDs and has 14 turnover. That’s a great season for a rookie QB.

If Darnold comes out and throws 20 TDs and 12 turnovers but our defense is elite due in large part to the fact our secondary can jam WRs at the line giving our pas rush that extra second to get to the QB, then where does that put us?

Many on here will simply compare Fields to Darnold. But it’s Darnold + Horn as a collective that we should be comparing

True and valid points. You would probably have to factor what we could have got for the future 2nd and 4th in acquiring Darnold to be completely fair, but it wouldn’t be anything close to Horn’s potential.

if Fields is great AND Horn is great and Darnold remains Darnold…..we still have egg on our face though.

Equally familiar with "bird on the head", "bird on the shoulder", "bird chewing holes in my shirt" and several others.

There is one about a stone but let's not go there. Most countries probably have one similar to "Free as a bird" and it's more positive so let us end with that one. 🐦

I agree with your thinking and was ok with Darnold as a project. Then when Fields was available at pick during the draft. It became more complicated. Having both Darnold and Fields on the roster, the position is so important so giving it along thought...

Well, I am actually ok with going with Darnold and Horn. But it could also extend the time until this team becomes competitive if he is not the solution. But I started to follow a middle of the league team so I don't mind, others might disagree and want success so I understand their frustration.

    • I don't think so. I think once you're measuring electronically, the spot is where the sensor says it is. So if it says half yard short of the line to gain, that's the spot. Now how that works with scrums and the ball moving on two minute drills and poo is anybody's guess.
