I don't think I've ever heard..

in previous years, so much buzz about lower draft picks and people that were literally picked up off the street. Luvu, Nixon, Robinson, Shi Smith, etc. I know it's just practice but seeing and hearing these guys make noise is already a great start by Fitterer. Makes me feel good to have this guy because this means he's going to find talent in every single round or at least have a higher hit rate in each round.

..just need Darnold to be good.

I'm trying to temper my expectations since it is just preseason, but it does look far more promising than past regimes.

Crazy to think we might get better production out of the 7th we got for Little than we ever did from him...

I try to go into every season as even keeled as possible.

That's honestly easier to do this year because there's a boatload of things that we just don't know.

The draft is a crapshoot. Our success (if it turns out that way) will prob have as much to do with the volume of picks we had as it does our ability to evaluate.

Hurn always put his eggs in 3-4 picks. Not great odds of success.

We have definitely seen more initial splash from last year's class and (at least early on) there seems to be some noise coming from this one.  I dont want to proclaim the last two draft classes elite or great as time will prove that out but it is refreshing that these guys seem to be competing and for the most part look like they are worthy of their picks.

Beware any hype that isn't generated from regular season games.

We will know how these dumpster dives and late round selections look towards the end of the year.

This is the first time I honestly feel the exact same going into this season as I did last season. There we so many unknowns last year and now again so many unknowns. Ya really just go into it not knowing wtf to expect or is going to happen.

With Rivera and Fox and Hurney you just kinda knew you were most likely going to be mediocre unless you were mediocre the last 3-4 seasons and lightning was about to strike again.

    • The problem with these summary stats and rankings is that they flatten out progression and assume an even performance throughout the year. His first 3 or 4 games of the season don't really tell you anything about his current level of capacity but more about where he started and what his floor was last year. Given his last several games were against playoff teams, that gives you an idea of his current ability coming into the season. But it will serve more as a floor than a ceiling given the upgrade in talent on offense. And a better defense should give us more stops which results in shorter fields and more opportunities. And going into his third year there is no reason to suspect he will regress. His success wasn't  based on being superhuman but being smart and taking what was the defense was giving him. Distributing to the other guys not trying to do it on his own. He was great at the end when pressured and consistently moved the ball. That makes him a great game manager which is what we need. Something that is easier to do and relies on everyone else rather than having to be a top physical specimen or do it on his own. No one can predict the future but to say we haven't improved much is crazy given just having the Browns anchoring the defensive line will shut down the run and make sure QBs won't be stepping up in the pocket.  Assuming Evero got the message to can the prevent defense and bend until you break philosophy.
