This kid was just waived by the Packers which is very surprising given he flashed potential and is only 23 y/o....

Packers waived LB Kamal Martin.

The move is a bit surprising as Martin, a fifth-round pick from the Packers' 2020 draft haul, logged six starts across 10 games as a rookie. Martin, still only 23 years old, began his rookie season on injured reserve with a knee issue but was able to return after five weeks. He earned one sack and 24 total tackles. Given his age and fifth-round draft pedigree, expect some teams to take interest in Martin as a depth option at interior linebacker.

Since when is 5th round pedigree a thing?

Teams only have about 8 picks, if they use one on a player, it holds some weight especially early in their career. Using a 5th round pick means a army of scouts/coaches/firms/nerds had that player in their top 150 ranking form the 2,000 draft pool. Yes by rounds 5,6,and 7 some teams are picking up darts, smart teams are asking 50 year old scouts and they have an answer. Many built up relationships and know if they have the goods to make a decent pro. Fooling does happen and some are not ready for the meat grinder. I think 5th rounder get around 300k signing bonus too, so you better choose wisely....

he is IOL they tried moving to OLB for some reason.  Interesting.

LaFleur also credited the linebackers ahead of him on the depth chart. Martin was no higher than No. 5 at inside linebacker, with De’Vondre Campbell, Krys Barnes, Oren Burks and Ty Summers ahead of him.

The Packers experimented with Martin at outside linebacker, but he hurt his knee again and missed the preseason opener. He returned for Saturday’s preseason game against the Jets but struggled.

GB has tons of depth at ILB, and Martin may be nursing an injury.

    • I'm looking at the schedule and I see a 10+win season easy.  I think Carolina goes undefeated in the division.  I also believe that the Bears, Bengals, Lions, Browns, Steelers are very winnable.  Revenge game with phillips and the eagles could be a win.  Honestly only 2 games I see as chalking up a L to off the bat is the Seahawks and Broncos.
    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
