His name is....Harrison Butker and it still makes no sense to me that Gano and his salary was kept. Harry-But is only the 2nd most accurate kicker in NFL HISTORY!!

there was a thought at the time that he just didn't have the body to survive in the nfl; that a strong breeze would kill him

and i mean i get it. he's a lanky dude. i saw him kick at georgia tech and he looks weird as hell out there

Anybody with a brain knew what the right call was.  Unfortunately, we had Ron Rivera and Marty Hurney at the helm.

When you mismanage a team for years and years and years...this kinda thing is just part of it.

My read is that it was intentional. It seems like Slye has a confidence issue, so I think they were trying to give him a confidence boost that he was going into the season unchallenged as the starter to see if taking the pressure off would help cure his case of the shanks.

And by all accounts it did not seem to have that effect.

If Rhule, and the Panthers brain trust, really did this, they are dumb as rocks, seriously

the nfl is always about pressure, performance under pressure, who can withstand it and perform at high level and who can’t

there aren’t any ‘participation awards…not for kickers or for second year head coaches

We will stick with Slye which is dumb as hell. Pinero definitely isn’t the answer, there is a reason he keeps getting cut.

Coach TempleBaylor will sit tight

Rhule did not sound vey happy with him after the last game. Sounded  rather ominous.

    • Yeah, honestly being a long-term backup is at least as much about being a good lockerroom presence and accepting your role as a supporting piece and not being a greasy wheel as much as it does about ability. Backup QB requires a completely different mindset than the starter and some guys just can't make that switch. It doesn't make them bad guys or locker room cancers or anything like that, it just makes them not what you're looking for in a long-term backup. You bring in that type of guy to compete. You don't bring in that type of guy if you're not looking for competition.
    • Im saying its Tar Heel fans who would do that. I root for all Panthers to succeed regardless but college affiliation means zero to me
    • We have some good pieces.  Enough to be competitive week to week.  Coaching seems to be improving but they’ve made it much harder on themselves than needed.  There are very good reasons to be optimistic about the future. However, I don’t trust them yet.  Wins are odd looking and mostly ugly.  Our opponents have to have a bad day for us to hang with them.  A lot of that is because we still haven’t figured out the most important position and will continue until it’s solved. I think Morgan has done a nice job in both the draft and FA so far.  He’s getting better each day he’s in that position. As far as the players listed, I’m pretty much in agreement.  XL and Bryce are not performing the way they should at this point.  I will say XL could see more success in a vertical passing attack to better utilize his speed. And as always, Fug Tepper.
