It's an interesting point, do you think Cam asked to be cut rather than be a backup?

will be interesting to see the info all trickle out.

it makes too much sense to have him on the roster.  Given how he looked and his cost.    I could see that.  BB did appear to actually like Cam.   If Cam asked to be cut....I could see BB honoring it if he was moving on.    That's just all tea reading and guessing though.

I'm sure we will find something out soon though.

Jones does and will suck ass

I think Jones will do well in NE, he really came into a perfect system and situation.  He doesn't really have to air it out, just play smart and efficient and let the defense win some games for you.

I still think there was more to the whole "misunderstanding" about travel....  I bet Cam just flat out disregarded the teams rules....

He didn't wear a tie when he re-entered the team facility after returning from his travel.

Cam actually had a decent preseason on field.  He is also cheap.

I think if you don't want him it is simply COVID headaches or Cam not willing to be happy being a backup that got him cut.  Otherwise, even if you start Mac Jones.....keeping Cam would make sense.

Agree

Cam supposedly isn’t vaccinated.    He would not be happy in a backup role.  He will never be what he once was.   He is high media maintenance

it was time for him to retire at the end of the season but it seems really hard for  pro athletes to accept that their bodies are finished

I wish him the very best in his life and I thank him for making Sundays during NFL season exciting and the Panthers relevant.  Most of all,  for his charity work.

Forever grateful that I got to meet him.

    • Yeah I find myself flipping between the worst case scenario of Bryce either playing just mediocre enough for our decision makers to justify giving him a contract extension in their eyes because they want to justify drafting him. Or Bryce going back to playing poorly and us having no one else to fall back on because Pickett might be decent for one or two games but there's no one else and our locker room starts to get ugly because we went all in with our salary cap and guys careers are on the line. This scenario which IMO is the higher probability given our schedule and the amount of tape out there on Bryce is why I say if we can trade down and acquire a few more mid or late round picks we should draft a developmental QB. Not looking for a guy to be the savior but someone with the necessary physical tools and who could actually run a QB sneak. But we'll just have to see how it shakes out. I just want a competitive team but the last thing I want is the season to fall apart because we once again threw our arms up in regards to the QB room.
    • ^This. Rico was dynamite when we needed it last season, but not enough to keep but it massively upped his earning potential. It was a win-win for both sides. And he was there to cover the hole left by the injury to another RB, and hopefully his release to free agency means there's good news for us on the way. These new ones give us the opportunity to do that again, on the offensive line and elsewhere. We've got some long term question marks here and there due to injuries and age, and these players have a chance to up their value on the open market or settle down with us if the opportunity arises. And none of it ties us down with dead money down the road if it doesn't work out. And we've been in dead money hell for a decade now. Lease the ones you like, buy if you fall in love.
    • Our red zone offense was excruciatingly painful to watch last season. A half decent TE would do a lot to change that.
