The difference is Darnold can make those throws. I don't see the obsession with checking down to CMC.  He's our most dangerous weapon and if teams are going to leave him open than you take advantage of it.

My issue is NYJ did a good job of taking him out of the second half and NO ONE ELSE except DJ stepped up.

A lot of QBs in the league can make the easy throws.  When you are trying to figure out if he is going to be your franchise QB after this season its the harder throws that separate the good QBs from the average.

How many throws today did he actually make that other average NFL QBs wouldn't have made?

I'm not saying he played bad, I'm just not convinced todays game tells you much.  They clearly protected him with play calling.

The TD pass to Anderson was a rare throw.

This is also not an offence where you're asking your QB to make insane throws a lot.

If the play isn't there you don't just show off your big arm for an incompletion.  The object is to move the ball down the field and score a Touchdown.

You give CMC open field anything can happen, and it will.  He made some good throws deep and they just weren't caught.  I thought Marshall had 1st game jitters.  Seemed he couldn't catch a cold today.  Some of the passes Darnold made to him were good and should have been caught.

He also didn't notice that they blitzed us in every snap.  He also doesn't mention that our interior oline is complete ass and was getting pushed back into Sam's face in every pass.

Isn't that what good play calling is supposed to do? Besides winning the game which we did. I don't understand what your problem with Sam's play is. It was his first game with Brady as OC, both feeling it all out. I expect the play calling opening up as the season goes on.

I put the fumble on Ricci, honestly.

This is what happens when a team seldomly uses a FB, miscues when one actually enters the game.  I say is was on both guys, honestly.  Sam held ball out too early, but Ricci didn't have to be so close to Sam either when he obviously was not the intended ball carrier.

I didn't say I had a problem with his play.

I just said that what we saw today wasn't really that impressive.  He did what was asked which wasn't much.

By the end of the season the team is going to have to decide whether Sam is a franchise QB or not, today didn't tell us much.

    • I agree with you in that I think we can take one on the road, two against this opponent would be a tall order.  Not impossible, but we'd be making it awfully hard on ourselves.
    • Dylan Larkin has requested a trade from the Red Wings: https://thescore.com/nhl/news/3550045 Trade Aho for Larkin. Work it out. Whatever it takes. I've always liked Larkin's game and I think he'd be a great fit alongside Jarvy and Svech.
    • This is a how I recall it as well. It was one "this year" 2nd and two future 1sts. Very few are able to predict the future, but I feel you had to label those 1st as late 20s. The true blunder was what you stated, before you turn down that massive offer, its a 100% must you sign Burns cause that value is still elite QB level offer. As we know either happened and Dan was a first time GM needing to fix this blunder of blunders. He or the group made the choice about not giving BB 30 per, I get it since he had holes in his game.  The issue here is the issue since 2018= tepper. Sometime either during the hiring process or with the two years, Im fairly certain trepper demanded a QB on the roster with a capable roster to compete. Fittererererererer job was on the line and he gassed up trepper into believing BY and the roster were ready to win..................... That roster of 2023 in hindsight was awful, I was wrong....... I thought even with a rookie BY they could have challenged for the NFC south, not a chance with that dogshit team and coaching staff.......whom I was also fooled about. Now you have the worst team 2-14 without 1st overall pick, DJ Moore, and no Brian Burns.  I don't know what or why or ____ just the panthers and finding good WRs with long careers is just cursed. You got Smitty and moose, that's about it for 25 years until they drafted DJ Moore.....so 3 dudes in 26+ years AND you trade one for a QB whom needs a team that doesn't struggle to find WRs......... Fittererererere was just like Morgan, he was a rookie GM and this team even back to 2020 just has failed at adding talent, young talent, or difference makers. Even look at the roster- Dbrown is about the only great player drafted in what feels like 10 years(horn struggles and tmac only 1 year)..... Treppers pressure is legend and him bringing in people with such little exp to fix the team was the main reason for 2 win 5 win seasons. He should have hired a old gray haired guy, but I know treppers ego would not allow someone else to have the answer.  I've work with teppers type and still do...... Smart people observing them know "if its not their idea, they want nothing to do with cause weird human reasons" Doesnt matter if my idea can solve the issues with 24 hours and it 100% corrects the problem, nah his plan is for 3 weeks with different Appaloosa Strategies.......... I do think he finally took a few steps back and allowed Dan and Daves staff to learn on the job, he had no choice given the league refused his money.
