So if we drafted Slater our defense isn’t getting off the field on 3rd downs, we will have less sacks, and teams will just pass on our CB not named DJax all game. That’s harder to watch than quick passes IMO. Plus Slater was further from a sure thing than Horn if you ask me.

Also, Horn tranforms the defense into something different. There were serious problems last year w/ man coverage and he solved that problem. JC Horn Can Solve Man Coverage Problems

It would be nice to spend a first on the position and at least pretend to care about it though.  How do you go eight consecutive drafts after Jordan Gross retires and not spend one first rounder at tackle? There's no way to logically defend that.

Ryan Ramczyk (RT, I know), Tristan Wirfs, and now Slater. Lots of talent that went shortly after us in recent years.

Seriously, if we’re going to redo the 2017 draft, I’m going Mahomes at 8, trading Cam and Luke for future picks, trade down and take Kamara and Godwin or Cupp. With hindsight, the options are endless!!!

You guys act like you can just draft a guy and after 1 game they are the answer at LT.

Yup.

The jets drafted 1st LT Round Mekhi Becton last year.  This year they drafted 1st Round G  Vera-Tucker.  BOTH were popular choices on the huddle.  They brought in RT Morgan Moses from WFT who had an 80.6 PFF.  Their center and RG are on par with ours.

Whose line performed better Sunday? The jets, or ours?

My bad I mixed up draft classes. I thought he was in the DJ Moore 2018 draft in which he would have only 6 picks later and been the top OT prospect there, consistent with the Wirfs and Slater examples.

I'm pointing out guys who were logical fits at the time for our draft slot. Also, it's spelled Kupp. Look I can be a smart*** too!

Don't forget *GettleMagic passing up on David Bakhtiari and drafting Valdosta State legend Edmund Kugbila right before him. Kugbila never played a down here, if I recall. I call it neglect.

Not the Panthers team, but the Huddle.

Have the goal posts moved to we drafted Brady Christensen to be a guard all along? Panthers fans are always good for a laugh. The team even put out an inside look video of people in the draft room rejoicing when we took him considering left tackle was our biggest need outside of corner.

    • Brandt's comment about Wharton was from his KC perspective when Wharton was a UDFA rookie.   "it goes back to the anecdote that Brandt Tillis had when he was in Kansas City. And it would be so easy to just cut Turk Wharton in 2020 when he was an undrafted rookie from a division two college in Missouri. It would been so easy to cut him because then he would have cleared waivers easily. No one knew this guy. They didn't have any joint practices, didn't have a preseason. Would have been so easy to cut him and bring him back on the practice squad and let him continue to build from there. And Brandt essentially said, "No, he's got to make the 53man roster if we're going to have any sort sense of credibility with this team."
    • Plenty of us were scratching our heads about that signing at the time. Especially with our 3-4 defense. Wharton is kind of a one trick pony situational five tech DT. He doesn't have the beef to hold up against the run and he doesn't have the juice to shift outside. He's basically a situational pass rusher DT. If we paid him $40M+ and he can't start for a historically inept defense then holy poo...
    • Agreed.  300 and 2 or 3 total in Jacksonville in a winning effort would sure be a nice start.
