per ESPN, "...our pass block win rate metric conveys the rate linemen can sustain their blocks for 2.5 seconds or longer."

Based on images in the same article it appears that most of the failure was our interior OL (note the 2! Jets DTs in the top 10).

So wait a second...if the stat mandates that the lineman hold their blocks for 2.5 seconds, and Sam is getting the ball out in less time than that most plays, how do they figure that one out?  If the play is designed to be out of the QBs hand in less than 2.5 seconds, then is it really a loss for the o-line?

I mean they probably win the pass-block at around 2.5 seconds, but likely won't get a sack until (likely between) 3-4 seconds. So the play is designed to get the ball out quickly but doesn't mean your receivers will always be open that fast which led to a lot of quick check-downs and screen plays.

I think its a loss for us cause it leads to 7234667 check downs to CMC and we need to limit the amount of hits this man takes on a weekly basis

FWIW, the scout that thought bringing Elflien here was a good idea after looking at his horrible game film needs to be canned, pronto.  Heck, most of us saw multiple clips of him getting trucked over with his previous teams and thought he looked absolutely horrible!  How in the world did a scout likely see those very same film clips and say: 'yeah, this guy would be a solid addition to our OL'?

It means that 20 percent of our pass plays took longer than 2.5 seconds. 80 percent didnt. But people here gotta Chicken Little everything.

    • 1. This is a really tough hand. Comes down to what Ickey's agent pushes for. If they insist on that big contract he would've likely earned before injury... we cut our losses now.  2. His production doesn't really warrant a huge contract. If he does get one, it's likely one we could afford. 3. Unless we get Jerry to bite again, I doubt anyone would want to trade anything for XL. His future is dependent on him getting better and/or future late-round/UDFA guys taking his spot. 4. I'm very much into drafting OL's every single draft. Ideally, a new LT/C but any Big Ugly with starter potential is welcome, especially if it helps us replace someone a lot more expensive. 5. Lean towards using draft picks.  6. Can't put all our eggs in the Brooks basket. Personally, if we get another back with a late round draft pick or as a UDFA, I'd like someone with a good set of hands.
    • Joseph Vincent Flacco. Find anyone who knows how to play LB. Rozeboom led the universe in missed tackles.  Find anyone who knows how to play TE. The entire position blows donkey dicks. Get a kicker who is reliable past 50 yards.  This is the new NFL, kicking 50-60 yarders is expected. Try not to look like monkeys fuging a football during the draft.  That puts us in a spot to compete for the division with Atlanta.
    • Bryce's contract has zero influence on Coker, period. If you think otherwise than you are just revealing your ignorance on how all of this works behind the scenes; QB contracts are basically a different tier that can also be utilized to reallocate resources when needed via restructures (see Brees and Saints.) The ERFA status simply gives the team a "declare your interest in keeping this player" due date, that is all. The numbers are irrelevant for any long-term plans, they are just a placeholder until both sides agree to a new contract if so desired.
