Artificial turf should be banned in the NFL.

I absolutely hated the fact that Tepper decided to ditch the grass for turf in the offseason. I get it is a penny pinching move and even with all the money he is saving he still isn't having the end zones painted black. 

The NFLPA was pushing to have turf banned last year although I don't know what ever came of it. Clearly the NFL doesn't care nor does our owner as we just switched our field. I'm wondering how Tepper is feeling after seeing our first round pick and our best player go down on non contact injuries due to turf.

I did some research on turf and some of the number are pretty staggering.

Players have a 28% higher rate of non-contact lower extremity injuries when playing on artificial turf. Of those non-contact injuries, players have a 32% higher rate of non-contact knee injuries on turf and a staggering 69% higher rate of non-contact foot/ankle injuries on turf compared to grass.

For a league that preaches player safety this is just insane. Thursday Night Football is another safety issue all on it own.

Take FIFA for example. For as terrible and corrupt an organization as FIFA, they are at least smart enough to not allow turf to ever be used in the World Cup. Oh and Tepper using the excuse to move to turf for our incoming MLS team, the majority of Pro European Football clubs play on grass and if a club wants to use turf it has to be approved by FIFA.

Look at it this way, Horn and McCaffrey would still be healthy right now if they would have been playing on grass.

Ban turf and do away with Thursday Night Football please and thank you.

The CMC injury may just be overuse the length of his career. TBH, he is leaning towards being one of those NFL RB's just just catches the injury bug and start to break down. So, due to that, not 100% ready to say the turf was the main cause of his injury.

However, Horn's injury did smack of turf related. If so....get rid of that poo ASAP.

Cmac had over 700 touches in the last two seasons of Riverboat.  I said at the time that is way too much for anyone and I hope there isnt long term damage.  Welp.......

The American Journal of sports medicine did a 4 year study in this.

Conclusion:

The overall rate of injury on artificial turf was noninferior to that on natural grass. Within individual injury categories, a higher rate of ankle injury was found on artificial turf. No other injury subgroup demonstrated statistically significant differences between surfaces.

For a League that preaches about player safety it would be one of the easiest things they could do to protect players. The numbers are pretty staggering. A player is basically 33% more likely to get injured on turf compared to grass. That fuging insane.

And yet our owner who is all about modern analytics and sports science just ripped up our beautiful grass field for that poo. Shows where his interests really are… $$$$$.

That articles data was from soccer. The one I pulled my numbers from was football. I don’t think the NFLPA would try to get turf banned if it was a real issue.

Houston's field is unique. Because it has to host some big stupid texas cattle show, the entire field has to be able to be removed.

it's basically a poo ton of like 15 x 15 squares with turf on them that lock together. it's why that field has been a death trap for so long; players are literally catching their cleats where the squares meet. 

this has been a problem forever but the nfl won't force the mcnairs to do anything about it

      The "now it's been three years" Grade for the 2023 Draft

      Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
