Unpopular Opinion

Sign Todd Gurley. Vet minimum, add in incentive bonuses and see what happens. He would be the power back that we have needed. Chuba can handle most of the work load, sprinkle in Royce here and there but with Gurley we might be able to do something on the goal line. It’s a small risk for a great reward. Think of him as a LeGarrette Blount for us. He made big differences for the Eagles and Patriots in back to back SB seasons. It could help us significantly on so many levels.

Who is catching passes then?

Hubbard will have to get it together but Royce can be used in those situations. Look at it like this having multiple backs for change of pace can help ease the loss of CMC a few weeks. Look at the colts they have 4 solid back they use for different situations. The Saints did it for years. I could use other examples but all I’m getting at is the RBs we brought in all do the same things. They are more finesse back that are smaller. We need a power back. We can’t except to trick teams every week and run sweeps with Tremble.

    • Kalkbrenner and Sion James received regular contracts and not two ways, so the Hornets have some work to do to cut the roster size down.
    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
