Credit to Tepper

Ever since Tepper has bought the team a lot of people have been quick to jump at the opportunity to paint him as a meddling owner with an overblown ego and pride.

If anything he has been the opposite.  Probably too patient with RR, too patient with Hurney, probably stayed out of the "football decisions" too much.

You can make the argument that the team shouldn't have let Cam go in the first place, but in reality at that point Cam was coming off some injuries and it made sense to not extend him.  All the parties probably thought a trade partner would materialize which never really happened.  Looking back they should have slow played it, told Cam they were not going to do an extension, he could look for a trade but when it didn't happen he probably would have played out his last year.  Once they signed Teddy that option went away.  

Either way I'm not sure a lot of owners would have resigned Cam after everything that has happened.   Simply put, this team, as crazy as it sounds, is in playoff contention, and they are doing what they think probably gives them the best chance.  You have to respect that.

Yup they at least try and don't just keep with a move just because they are the ones that made it. They seem to be trying so can't hate that even if it isn't working or doesn't work...

All you can really ask for is legit attempts.

Agreed. And that gives me long term hope with Tepper as an owner. Being able to admit to your mistakes is a huge asset.

Today is a day to be happy.  I don't know if this can really turn the season around, and it doesn't erase the gross mismanagement of the QB position over the last few years (which if we're being honest goes all the way back to 2016 and Rivera playing Cam hurt), but for today... 

It offers hope and nostalgia, 2 of the strongest human emotions there are... and I'm here for it

I think everyone respects Tepper for this, even if Cam sucks(which he won't).

I was never in support of trading / releasing Cam, he had 1yr, and 19M left -- so we go out and sign Teddy for 3y / 60M. 

I was never in support of trading Teddy, and trading a 2, 4, and 6 for Darnold. Yet we did, and then when Fields FELL INTO OUR LAP, they turned their noses up, drafted Horn who I think was showing to be an excellent corner prior to injury. Then they activated Sam's 5th year option by the time the Broncos picked at #9. Then they did not even bother to sign a viable back veteran up QB. 

Whoever was responsible for those series of decisions simply DOES NOT understand the NFL and the QB position (IMO this was Matt Rhule as two years in a row poo QB decisions were made, and he was the constant).

Hurney was the 1st sacrifice, and IMO Fitterer was here to short a time to make a ''Franchise QB level decision'' and deferred to Rhule's preference and facilitated a trade, as in the Panthers Draft Room videos it alluded to Tepper wanting Fields. I wil also give Fitterer credit for his draft day trades and helping us cover the loss of those picks preemptively as we added 11 rookies in 2020.

Do people come to see a guy like CMC, Burns, etc? Yes. BUT none of that matters as there is NO BIGGER draw in the NFL than a franchise QB, they allow you to:

1) Win games regularly

2) They put butts in seats

Teddy, and Sam accomplish neither of those things, and had no NFL tape to back up their ''potential'' to do so. I put the blame at Rhules feet, and while I think in other personnel areas we've made strides, he needs to stay away from QB decisions.

Tepper wants to win. The end. He’s trying to put a good product on the field and isn’t going to be ashamed to admit a mistake. 
 

It also helps that he’s the richest owner in the league and is self-made. Who’s gonna try to chest bump that dude?

like 60% of my wrist-wringing with him was how Cam was handled. He manned up and realized he done goofed. ESPECIALLY after signing Barkely w/ Cam on the couch. 

Honestly, that move screams Rhule/Fitt and Tepp had to finally step in.

I respect him for bringing Cam back and that he makes sure this FO is active and trying to get better. He does seem a little temperamental though.
