Does Cam get a long term deal if he plays well the rest of the season?

How about we play a game or two with him before we get all spendy and stuff?

Not against something longer term if he plays well, but there's a chance that either he's not up to snuff or that the coaching is so bad they can do nothing, even with him under center.

Cam left here broken and battered, and he played for New England like he was still broken and battered. He's had some extensive time to heal now so maybe he's better. But he might still have a bad shoulder and no distance on his throws. We just don't know and we just won't know.

Let's give this whole thing some time to breathe.

It’s why I wanted a 3 or 4 year deal for Cam just like he wanted. We should’ve been following the Green Bay model. Drafted fields with Cam still on the roster. And have him get mentored by one of his idols. Cam is a great teammate and would’ve taught him how to be a pro. We still have the chance to do that with another QB. Hope we sign him to a multi year deal in the off-season. And if they don’t like the qbs in this upcoming class then draft one next year. Get Darnold off this team ASAP. Bring in another competent vet next year for a backup role if we don’t draft a qb.

You've just described PJ.

alright so here’s the recap:

the argument in favor of cutting Cam revolved around the reality that his injury may prevent him from being good enough to win you a super bowl, but that he was still too good a player to let you “tank.”

Tanking of course being defined not as intentionally losing football games, but as not artificially inflating your W/L record for that season by throwing frivolous money and draft capital around for no reason and simply accepting where you are at in your franchises development

so when Cam was cut, from that perspective, it wasn’t the wrong move, even if failing to prepare for it had forced you into a position where you were relying on luck

however, the teams moves from there clashed with the above outlook

they immediately went out and signed a journeyman QB to a big deal (and a 3rd round comp) to ensure they wouldn’t be getting a top 5 pick (though all things considered, they got lucky picking 8 and would’ve been even higher if the lions weren’t so mindnumbingly trash)

and when that predictably went like a bunch of laymen told the paid professionals it would-they did the exact same thing all over again, except this time paying more, including a 2nd round pick.

to top it off, they had Fields fall to them but by that point had convinced themselves all the talking points they had fed to the media to talk up Darnold were actually true and not just propaganda

it’s remarkable how bad they are at this

anyways, yeah, back at square 1. If you’re not going to “tank” then you ride it out with Cam.

he should be here until you get a 1st round rookie QB. The Watson ship sailed when you decided to wait until he was clean and you were in a bidding war with 2/3 of the League for him (spoilers)

I thought they cut Cam after the Teddy B signing? Otherwise, spot on!
