Cam Newton should be done as a starting QB in this league

Let's see how Cam evolves in the next couple of weeks. He hasn't played a lot of football recently and I'm sure in his mind he thinks he is 2015 Cam. If he is smart he will see what passes he can and can't get away with anymore. If he refuses to evolve he will be done in the league. I'm not giving up on him yet but his game needs to change.

Reflecting back in time to the 2015-16 season, we all remember how Cam went was how the Carolina Panthers went that year.

When  he was playing right and dancing and celebrating with his teammates and was healthy, he could win games but he couldn't change the way he played after that as teams began hitting him and planning for his runs to the point where he was calling for officials to get some of the calls.

Some of it fell on Cam himself, there comes a time where you have to adjust to moving and working within the pocket instead of tucking and running, Steve McNair for example ran less and less as his career progressed and a lot of these scrambling quarterbacks now will have to make that difficult transition.

Who was he going to throw to? No one getting open has been the story of his career. Wrs? Name one good one outside of Steve smith

I'm surprised we haven't seen PJ more in the past two weeks honestly. Cam can still obviously play a part in the offense, especially in the red zone. But I just can't see how he's a full time starting option after less than 3 weeks on the roster. If they bring him back next season and he has a full offseason in whatever offensive coordinator's system they have, I'm sure he'd look better. I feel like they ran the same 3-4 formations and ran the same plays over and over because he only knows like 20% of the playbook at this point.

why surprised? this is what the fans wanted. rhule cares way too much about outside opinions, plus pressure from tepper, and thats why cam is here. they were too concern about a feel good story versus winning. had they just ran with the 2 qb system we beat washington and the dolphins.

Well put post my friend. I really don’t think this is the end of Cams career. The fact he played so well two weeks straight with such little time with the playbook is honestly impressive. I would be more then happy to resign Cam and build up our o line and get an actual fuging oc that knows how to draw up plays.

I am fortunate that I have AFN.  AFN shows all the games in replay through the week. I get a chance to watch a lot of games.  We are, by far, the most inept offense in the league right now.  Brady is the reason.  Lack of experience or just plain egotistical that he can't adapt to the NFL.

I said in a thread I posted earlier this week that I don't think it would matter who was under center that we aren't going to produce the high octane offense we are capable of.  We have the weapons but we don't have an OC that can game plan an offense to get them the ball.

Cam had a terrible day, I believe 5 or 6 of his attempts were blocked.  It is pretty easy to block a short pass when you are two feet from the QB.    Our O-line is abysmal and our OC cannot design plays to help with that issue.

I was skeptical of a college OC and only went onboard because anything was better than Shula.  Now I am not so sure.

Literally explained why I’m surprised in the sentences that followed my first statement if you had read that far.

Cam can at least score in this pathetic offense, we are tied to Sam for 19 mil next year and he couldn't even do that for 3 straight games. With less than 3 fugging weeks on the team.

Even if Cam is a shell of himself, he is still a better QB than the guy we pissing all of that capital away on.

No QB is going to look good until the higher up issues are addressed. Anyone who doesn't look there first is football illiterate or has another agenda. Now that Sam is off the field, QB play isn't enough for any of the staff to hide their massive failures behind.

Probably the wisest course...

I don't know what to make of Newton yet. He looked good one week and terrible the next. Overall it's probably too small a sample size right now. We need to see more.

Worth remembering that even at full strength, Brady's offense was never well suited to Newton's skill set. To make it work best would require Brady making  adjustments.

That's...not something I have a lot of faith in.

I'm still befuddled by how we went with a supposed offensive HC in Rhule to have our offense look significantly worse under him than it was under Rivera.

Thank heavens the Hurricanes are having a good season in the NHL, small slide currently or not.

Rhule's preferred style of offense is probably closer to John Fox's than Sean Payton's.

But then he went and hired a Sean Payton disciple to run his offense, so... 😕

I'm not sure where the idea that Rhule was an "offensive" coach came from.  His past experience is actually very balanced.  That's kinda what made him a good HC candidate.  Positionally, he's coached:  Linebackers, Defensive Line, Special Teams, Quarterbacks, Tight Ends and Offensive Line.

I guess my best response to that would be as follows:

With that much experience under his belt, shouldn't we be good at any of it?

The D-line is mostly okay at pass rushing, but the rest of it....Christ.

I could make the argument for this being the worst special teams and offensive line we've ever had.

Jack of all trades, master of none?

Right now it looks like he sucks at everything - offense, defense, special teams
