Every year since 2018 has been the same story

2018 - Started 6-2, ended 7-9
2019 - Started 5-3, ended 5-11
2020 - Started 3-2, ended 5-11
2021 - Started 3-0, 5-8 right now

This team has been incapable of sustained success. Strong starts followed by horrendous finishes. We've never had a stretch like this in team history - it's always been the opposite.

This does not happen four times in a row without reason.

Whats the common denominator with each and every one of those teams?

No fuging oline.  Teams figure us out and it goes down hill from there.

It boils down the our major weakness since 2018, a lack of consistent QB play. Some unpreventable...and some due to poor personnel evaluations.

Cam got hurt midway thru 2018 and we had to rely on a backup.

Cam only played two games in 2019. Ended the season with a backup.

We had Teddy Bridgewater in 2020. He's not the worse QB on the NFL by a longshot. But, he isn't exactly Mr.Clutch. Carolina lost 8 games by one score or less on 2020 with a shot to win each one one in the 4th quarter and Teddy couldn't manage one win.

We pinned our hopes on Sam Darnold in 2021. He became a turnover machine after week 3. PJ Walker has a live arm but he throws too many INTs and and doesn't know how/when to give up on a play. Cam is far removed from his 2015 MVP season, and he joined the team in the middle of the season which makes it even more difficult for him.

I think all of the above would have benefit from a better O-line. But, they have  all made some bad throws and poor decisions that have cost us some games. The upper echelon QBs would be more successful here despite the O-line deficiencies because they have the ability to elevate the play of their teammates. None of our QBs have been able to do that since 2018.

Right....they only need to overwhelm the line with constant bull rushes... thats the key to betting us...

It’s pretty simple. We need better decision makers. Everything starts at the top, the product you see on the field is a direct result of decision makers.

Fix that and you fix your team.

Tep is too busy tonight with MLS to give a fug about the panthers...

    • Dave in a presser gassed up Anthony Tyus III and dying to see him on the field.  I mean 3 is all that needed right, and Dan loves etienne. He's one year filling in his body. If brooks is back, toss in chubba, thats 3.
    • After seeing hits in the last two UDFA pools, I do not in this group sorta of a let down after I gassed myself up.  Not like I know of their games, but just expected more. The duke DT only has to beat out hunte (2025 UDFA) or Ray (DL coach's kid) or even Cam Jackson mid 2025 5th.  I thought they would bring in more edges, IOL, TEs, etc...
    • My 2 favorite picks, since you didn't ask? 3. Brazzell II.  A 1000 yard WR with 4.37 speed and checks all the boxes for a Z Wide Receiver.  IN THE THIRD ROUND!!! 5.  Sam Hecht.  I think he will take over as the starter at some point this season and never look back.  IN THE FIFTH ROUND. Runner Up:  2. Hunter:  We were targeting a DT early in this draft because we did very little to replace Robinson in free agency.  Hunter was our guy and he will start. In addition to that, you got a starting tackle that should man one side of the new OL we will build for Bryce's second contract. A starting WR, offensive lineman, defensive lineman and possible Offensive tackle (at some point during this year from this draft will start.  UNREAL. In addition, I don't doubt that Wheatley (5th round) takes the FS job by next year and Lee III is Jackson's replacement in 2027.   Finally, even Kuwatch should be a special teams demon and LB depth.   Last year's draft was so good it was ugly.  This one will turn out to be uglier.  No offense Basbear--this ain't about you.
