I'm willing to give Sam one more year if the team fixes the O-line

Patriots did it

Meh… not really, they replaced two players from last years squad… we need to find players for four of the five spots.

Karras - who makes less than both Erving and Elflein and is a player we could have easily signed but didn’t.

Brown - A player who was acquired via trade and wanted to go back to the Patriots.

They already had Wynn, Andrews, and Mason.

Dude your not finding 2 free agent starting lineman Marty is that you? There is no reason to draft a qb this year in fact it would be beyond dumb. Especially given the fact that we are already on the hook for Darnolds contract next year. Invest everything into the O Line and find an NFL caliber OC and hire a real line coach.

It has been done, just not as easy. And it’s usually not us that finds them. Also there is nothing wrong with sitting a rookie QB if the guy they want is available and an olineman isn’t.

I also said a QB next year is fine just they same. Players can be found everywhere. Picking timing for things is really kind of a stupid thing to debate over. The patriots found a stud guard in the 5 round.

The question is who is making the moves, evaluating the talent in the draft and being able to sign their guy in FA. That’s what’s going to matter than the timing of it all. And thus far we fail in that category.

The point was it will take 2 years of diligence, however it is sliced, to make it work.

We may not have a choice.  We owe Sam to much money last year to cut him and sign anyone that is even decent.  From a fiscal perspective, keeping Sam and drafting a qb is really the only choice.

But its going to be hard to fix the Oline this offseason unless we spend our very limited amount of picks on Oline.  Fixing the Oline thru free agency is expensive, as oline is at a premium.  The Darnold trade (and to a lesser extent, the Henderson trade), really put us in a bad position.  Fortunately, the bad position is short term.

First off, it's much too soon to be calling the Henderson trade a bad one. Darnold's was the dumb one that became just stupid when they exercised the 5th year option. And secondly, I don't see 18 mil to Sam as a deterrence to signing another QB. Now you may be right about him being under center, but that's because of Rhule's arrogance and incompetence, not because we are just hog-tied financially.

I didn't say that the Henderson trade was a bad one, only that it helped put us in a bad position regarding rebuilding the oline thru the draft next year, in that we gave up a third to get him.  Combine that with the Darnold deal, and we don't have many picks to use on offensive line next year, especially if we draft a QB with the first.

If we sign anyone decent at qb, its going to cost a significant amount of cap space.  Given that we will already have a lot tied up in Sam, its going to be hard to sign both decent oline and a quarterback.  Not impossible, but not easy.

I love Cam, No i really really love cam he is my number 1 panther of all time but its time to move on. Everyone here knows i don't want to blow up the team because i still believe matt rhule and scott have a plan. Sam is still the best pure passer on this team and everyone here knows it. I say draft a QB in the first and let Sam prove he deserves to still start.

I don't know why all the poo on this thread.  While Darnold hasn't look good neither has any QB including Cam. I'm not so sure any QB in the NFL would look good behind this line.  The O-line couldn't hold up against a top tier college team.  They can't open holes, can't hold blocks and Pass pro is atrocious.

Darnold is the only QB under contract and even if we drafted a QB we are still in a terrible position as far as the line in concerned.

Rhule is the problem.  He doesn't play rookies unless he has to.  Even if they are better than what is on the field.  If we hadn't traded Arnold we probably wouldn't have seen Tremble.  Hubbard would not have seen much time either had CMC gone down.  Horn was probably the only rookie he was going to start and that was because he had to.  You don't draft a 1st rounder to sit on the bench.   Marshall looked great in preseason but has seen little action this year.  I thought he would have been a stud for us.

So while it isn't a popular position to take, giving Darnold the nod in 2022 is better than destroying a rookie QB.

Our #1 priority this offseason, especially if we draft a QB, is to sign top tier offensive line free agents and getting an O-line coach that can get the best out of what we have.  Moton, Christensen and maybe Brown would be a good start.  Sadly Rhule refuses to give Brown a chance to play.  He'd rather put MJ and Miller out their. It's impossible for me to imagine Brown could look any worse than those two guys.

You could have the best GM of all time and trying to fix the o line with a 5th and later round picks and free agency would still be near impossible. Trying to set unrealistic standards is how you ruin an already bad team, set realistic standards and go through the following steps.

Again, the Patriots spent 160 mil on the first nine days of free agency largely on the offensive side of the ball, and Mac Jones has 18 TD - 12 INT in 15 games

Last season with a sliver of the offensive talent Cam had 21 TD, 10 INT

Cam was low-key pretty good last year. And this year, how can you judge any QB behind our line this year? Fact of the matter is the last two seasons Cam’s been in a real difficult situation. I mean, that’s basically his entire career. Which is why people who bring up Cam’s passing stats and say he had one good season arent smart .. yes, because he’s virtually always had a trash line and trash weapons but yet still has what, 270 TD .. imagine how many in a decent offense

If no one is going to give an opposing opinion than what is the point of a debate. You can make all the childish gifs and emoji's or whatever but it seems like having a discussion with anyone on this board just leads to idiotic responses.

Yeah, they are all experts.  I got hammered last spring when I merely suggested that Mac Jones as an option for us at QB.  If we are on the long-term plan as suggested when Rhule was hired, Tepper is not going to fire Rhule now. Yesterday I noticed that the QB play was better on the few plays the OL gave the QB time.

Expect us to address the OL in free agency.  I would not rule out QB either.

The panthers will try and find a trade partner in 2022 an trade down and pick up that 2nd and 3rd they threw away

rebuilding teams should never, ever do what Rhule did…never ..particularly with no LT

and with slater sitting there, the idiot bypassed on him for a freaking cornerback and in the second for a wr that barely sees the field

2020, not much better

With decent coaching and an o-line that could protect for even two seconds, maybe Darnold would have been a winner. We'll never know.

And there's every chance now that we're stuck with Rhule, which means no o-line, no decent coaching.

We're as doomed as Darnold's comeback chances were.
