Thank god we have Darnold and an 18 million dollar cap hit instead.

Rhule made a simple mistake and gave away a high second round draft pick for the worst starting QB in football.  It happens.   I'm sure he won't do something nearly as boneheaded in his third year as Panthers Head Coach.  Or will he?

The problem with trading down is that teams know we are desperate for more draft picks. That means they're likely to do what they did last draft and tie up our phones with offers without equal points. Bad deals for us in other words, and a flood of them from multiple teams. We need to stay put and take a LT to anchor our line unless we receive an awesome offer.

Actually, teams would be more likely to trade mid round picks because we are missing picks as opposed to offering future 1s. they’ll see that we need to fill our draft gaps, and only offer their current picks instead of future picks. If teams want their players, they will offer what it takes.

if we are picking 5 that means there will be some serious talent on the board. Teams will want to get their guy.

We need to be wise on how we manage this draft.

they are 1 game out of the 1 seed, not sure why they would rest their players. Getting that bye would be huge for them especially with their injury situation.

Furthermore, even if they don't get the #1 spot the higher the seed they'll have more home games before traveling to GB, if GB wins their playoff game.

They have plenty of incentive.   I'm more worried about New Orleans letting Carolina win.   Payton has a way of screwing things up for us.

If NO, SF, and PHI all win out, NO and PHI get the wildcards. Sean hates us, but he's not giving up a shot at the playoffs to drop us a few spots in the draft.

Think about that. Sean's a quality NFL coach and with the QB situation he's had this year, he's on the verge of the playoffs, presumably running the same offensive system that we can't get any of our QBs to look good with...

Letting us win? NO is right on the cuff of the final playoff spot. I don’t think they would intentionally lose to ruin our draft position and sacrifice going to the playoffs…

Shows how solid Sean is as a head coach, but it’s apple and oranges compared to our situation.

mcvay and bill b failed in similar situations as Peyton, what does that say about them?

    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
    • I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
    • Yea Bryce was definitely a top half qb the second half of last season but I'm not sure Canales is 100% sold on him.  Like I've said in another post I think that's part of why we talked to so many South Carolina players in the draft process.  I think they are doing early due diligence on Sellers just in case.
