Cousins/JimmyG makes a lot of sense for Rhule (not the Panthers)

Matt Rhule needs to win at least 9 games this season to keep his job. He can't do that with a rookie QB. A guy like Cousins or Jimmy G with an I proved offensive line could do it.

It is a low ceiling though. With Rhule as coach this team isn't going to be contending. So could be another wasted year instead of truly building for the future with a solid staff and young QB.

Yea like I said in another thread trading for Cousins is a nightmare scenario. He’s good enough to be around .500 and take the Panthers out of contention to draft a top rookie QB next season.

I’d honestly rather tank with Darnold or even roll the dice on Pickett because rookie QBs can end up being something unexpected.

That's not going to work due to supposed expectations put upon Rhule.

Honestly, I'm thinking that it may have been better to give Rhule two more years as opposed to one if you weren't firing him this offseason, because at least he could've made rational decisions in fitting with the longer term wellbeing of the franchise. Now, he's essentially backed into a corner with a gun pointed at his head. Desperation is really his only answer, and the ship may not be righted for three to five years depending upon what transpires.

We should really be hoping that we're all wrong and that he and Tepper are right, or we're just going to have to look to brighter days somewhere along the line of 2025 or 2026.

We're going to waste a lot more than another year. These clowns are going to gut our future draft capital and quite possibly our cap space in an embarrassingly desperate futile attempt to win now. The resulting carcass of an organization will be highly unappealing to qualified in demand candidates because of the massive uphill battle and lack of roster building capital to fix it.

Welcome to Tepper and Rhule's clown show.

My advice to everyone? Start identifying a "second favorite team" to start following or just largely transition to being a general NFL fan and watch whatever games are most intriguing. I did the latter down the stretch last season. I'll probably do both this coming season. I'm basically weaning myself off of the Panthers until I see any sign of intelligence and competency from Tepper.

Valid approach.

personally hockey has my eye.  The Hurricanes are finally back to being good, likely for years to come, and if Tepper doesn't pull his head out of his ass, they'll have my eye for good.

I respect hockey and the skills involved I just can't get into it. I'm far too rooted in football and basketball. Hockey just looks like a sloppy turnover fest to my eye. I'm just far too rooted in sports with a much more obvious concept of possession.

That's an odd thing for a basketball fan to say.

Yep what I’ve been saying but Tepper is going to let Rhule finish us off before he leaves either halfway or end of the year.

If they counted turnovers in a hockey game the number would be in the hundreds. Hell, much of the game is played with the concept of possession being fluid and vague at best. In terms of turnovers per possession, basketball is much more in line with football than it is hockey.

If I stop watching the Panthers, I'll just give up on the NFL all together. I can get my football fix by watching college games.

It wouldn't be that hard for me to go back to being a general NFL fan. That's what I was prior to the Panthers drafting Peppers. I had favorite players more so than favorite teams and basically watched whatever the most intriguing matchup was on at the time. I had a casual interest in the Panthers as the local team but definitely wasn't a Panthers fan per se. That's likely the direction I'm trending again under Tepper.

What's more enjoyable, tuning in to watch guys like Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, Aaron Donald, etc. or tuning in to watch Matt Rhule make an ass of himself? I mean, it's a pretty easy answer if you're being honest.
