The Texans want at least three first round picks, plus two other assets (either players or high picks).

With multiple teams interested, why should they lower their demands?

They should lower their demands if there demands are not met. There is a chance their demands will not be met at that asking price. I thought that was sort of clear.

With multiple bidders? Including several with way more trade ammunition than us?

Not likely.

If he's willing to sign off on it I fully expect it to happen. This is the type of move that could legit save Rhule's job. If it happens I'll definitely be conflicted. Elite QB? Check. But, oh man... definite baggage. Also, if it happens I'll be pissed Rhule knee jerk fired Brady because I would've liked to have seen him get a chance to work with an actual NFL QB before getting scapegoated.

The better question is why would any team want to pay this? If he had zero baggage, ok. But with 10 criminal counts pending and his civil case being a PR nightmare, how in the world do you fork over that kind of collateral with zero assurances in the contract that he gets to play? The only reason Goodell didn't put him on the exempt list is he didn't have to because the Texans had no intentions of playing him. When the press and activists get involved he'll have no choice but to put him on the exempt list until a thorough investigation has been concluded.

Yep. He guaranteed 72M over the next two years. And he still hasn’t been suspended. If Jamies got 3 games for touching an Uber driver, what’s Deshaun Cosby going to get? Best case half a season. That’s a tough sell without giving up anything.

General expectation is that nothing will happen until there's at least some resolution on the criminal charges.

Some teams might be willing to deal with the lawsuits, probably looking for conditions like Ross did in Miami. But others (i.e. the dumb ones) will take the risk and jump in.

Here's to hoping we're not that dumb.

    • Well, as far as backups go, Kyle Allen is actually a decent one.  Better at this point than Dalton probably. That being said, Hooker apparently had an atrocious game against the Texans.
    • i wouldn't say that yet. I also wouldn't say he's done anything that makes me think he's particularly good. i think that's about right for compensation both ways for thielen considering the state of the vikings and Panthers.  The weirdest thing is that technically the panthers should be adding veteran salary cap right now; they have a high cost first overall qb on a rookie contract; that's the best advantage in the NFL in this day and age. It hasn't worked out because, well, the qb they drafted isn't good and they've ignored other parts of the team to try to bolster him.  so what's morgan really supposed to do? Are they tanking with a rookie qb in year three that the owner probably personally wanted drafted? Are they actually trying to win games this year with 80 career catches between their top three receivers? The defense is probably going to be terrible. What kind of jump are people actually expecting from Coker, Bryce, XL, and performance from a rookie to overcome that? It's not realistic.  At the end of the day I don't think Thielen wanted to end his career here and I don't blame him. Minnesota is going to compete this year and Carolina isn't. I also think this is to toss Bryce to the wolves and be done with him one way or another. There's no way this works. This is not a move you make if you're trying to win football games.
    • If he helps them win a super bowl the individual award is irrelevant.
