Florio: Panthers understand they have to give up 3 firsts, another pick, and 1-2 (Chinn, Burns, Brown, Horn)

I just can’t take it anymore. Who are we bidding against? I read the Steelers don’t want Watson, the Seahawks are tearing everything to the ground and starting over and the Colts don’t have a first round pick this year. Seriously, who are we bidding against?

We're bidding against the Texans. That's what they want for a guy refusing to play for them 1 year after signing a 160 million dollar contract.

Here's a better idea. We arent goimg to the playoffs with Watson. This team is not good enough and Rhule definitely isnt. Don't trade for Watson, let him ride the bench another year, get a LT this year in the draft, and wait for the Texans to be desperate to move him because of that 40m a year salary or they have to cut him. Next year, depending on the draft position, choose either a QB from that draft or then trade for Watson, who's legal situation should be much clearer and Houston is desperate to get rid of 40m a year on their salary cap for the next 4 years for a guy that's never going to step foot on the field for them again.

Rhule's desperate attempt to hang on to his job and Tepper's desperate attempt to find a QB are not good reasons to gut the talent on this team. This is like Dan Snyders obsession with Dwayne Haskins only much much worse.

I agree completely. Do not want.

But you must realize should he not be charged criminally, which may be decided soon, (Friday or the coming week, deadline of April 1 at the latest). This is most likely a civil only matter.

Also keep in mind if it does go criminal, it does not mean he will be convicted. An indictment is not a conviction. It means a case will be built and go to a plea or trial. But it’s a sign when the grand jury declares evidence worthy, it means it usually is and most importantly, gives you a peak at what a trial would result in should you not plea. On a smaller related note though, we are speaking about high paid lawyers and individuals …a lot of things can happen and have happened evident in judicial history when big money is involved.

Meaning, as a civil case, the only repercussions from a team’s perspective, will be whatever punishment the NFL decides to impose on Watson, and their limits within their guidelines of something that is in fact not criminal.

I have no idea what that is.

And I also have no idea if sitting out last year will play into any ‘credit time served’ agreement or argument presented by Walton’s side, on his behalf, that will provide better optics from the masses on the end result (which matters quite a bit) or possibly won’t even matter at all. I’m not an expert in NFL guidelines so not sure.

Watson is pleading the 5th in the civil dispositions. Which makes sense, there is absolutely no reason to testify with criminal charges looming, that is kind of a form of double jeopardy in a sense, though only technically applying to criminal cases. It is still self incrimination, and legal officials recognize that. It is not a shocking move.

The fifth is generally used in civil cases to avoid self discrimination. He can plead the fifth in criminal court however this will be very unlikely, and can be overruled by the judge. It is also only applied to specific scenarios and questioning. And it can be worked around regardless. Therefore, not really a tool in criminal proceedings, only civil and testifying for a third party case(s).

Some crumbs for thought.

“You wanna waste my time? OK I call my lawyer. He’s the best lawyer in Miami”

“He’s such a good lawyer, that by tomorrow morning you’re gonna be working in Alaska. So dress warm”

Something is fixing to go down Alexander is bringing up players we know we would have to give up, even John McClain of Houston Chronicle just said Panthers are interested and in contact!

According to many legal experts it’s very unlikely that a criminal indictment vs Watson will be referred

This trade would be classic David Tepper/Matt Rhule. I’ve been loyal to this team since the beginning but this would be my breaking point.

LOL…classic…they have never made any trade like this…ever.  They have actually been very conservative.  People have gotten really ridiculous about how smart the Panthers actually are.  They missed on Darnold. Thats it.

It's not like Tepper does not have legal experts on his payroll. There is a reason all of this is getting leaked out to me, Florio, Alexander, etc right now. No chance they believe he is being convicted, this wouldn't be a conversation we would be having if they did.

Though it has become kind of obvious Tepper is blinded by his own hubris a bit, as he went into the owners meeting believing they would 100% get Watson. I certainly hope that is not the case. They already desperately backtracked last year by having Person (I believe it was Person anyway) leak some BS about how "we are not interested at this time". It would be outright embarrassing if they had to do that again.

One thing is for sure, the leagues perspective on us being an absolutely shitshow is completely on point.
