Panthers sign DE Marquis Haynes

"Haynes was Carolina's fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and developed into an effective rotational player. He was fourth on the team with 3.0 sacks last year, and had 4.0 sacks in 2020.

Even as he flashed in the preseason, Haynes was limited in his role during the regular season, playing just 21 percent of the defensive snaps in 2021. It was hard to find more time when you had Brian Burns on one side and Haason Reddick on the other (20.0 combined sacks)."

He was solid last year and PFF loved him. It’ll be interesting to see what he does with an increased roll.

I've always liked him. Reminds me of a smaller Mario Addison. All motor.

Fox was super cheap though and he produced

Need depth and he knows the team, as the coaches know him.

Should've kept Fox but ok. It's a push at best. It's certainly no upgrade on the dline.

Guys like him (and Mario) win because they just wear the offensive linemen out over the course of a game. Good to see him back, hope he gets more field time.

Haynes basically plays stand up edge/OLB in odd fronts. He won't really be used like Fox (That more YGM's role).  I see him replacing Luvu on passing downs as a rotational piece. We will see how much he plays depending on who else we can bring in and if we trade away any other players (ie-Burns). Its a good signing IMO.
