Deion Calls Out Panthers, Along with 7 Other NFL Teams, For Not Sending a Single Scout to Jackson St. Pro Day

I get what he's saying, but there is a big difference between Jackson State and Ole Miss / Mississippi State.

I mean, objectively it seems like the best use of time for the Panthers yesterday would be watching Malik Willis, no?  Today, Ole Miss and State is a pretty full day.

As a reminder, there were NO players from Jackson State invited to the combine.

Yeah. Big schools are upset that HBCUs are sniping their players.

James Houston IV was a stand out in the NFLPA and Senior bowls. Invited to both. And players he is better than were at the combine. Why? Big school politics sending a message to 4 and 5 star athletes who choose to use the transfer portal to go to an HBCU to showcase.

The combine is a joke.

He’s doing what he thinks is best for his program. Trying to drum up interest in Jackson St.

That does not mean sending a scout there was in the best interest of the Panthers. If no one there is a target, spend valuable time elsewhere. Jackson St won’t be able to prevent the Panthers from drafting a player in the future.

While I understand time and resources allocation, and that no school can stop a team from drafting their players, my opinion is, like in many, if not all avenues in life, relationships matter.  And what makes it look worse is that we either already were down there last night or will be there today.  I understand if we didn't have a prospect we are strongly interested in currently at JSU, but how do we know?  Many times, scouts, despite all of their work, happen upon a prospect they previously overlooked because of pro days, and then they go back and study the tape...  it happens every year.  Considering that likely all of our brass is in Mississippi today, I think we could've spared a low-level scout.  It's just not a good look...  and no, they might not be teeming with NFL talent this year, but they have some, and they will definitely become a powerhouse in years to come as long as Deion is there.  They are already luring top level, 5 and 4 star recruits.  I just think it is just worth it to see what they currently have, as well as establish that relationship for down the road...

I also understand that a large part of this is Deion looking out for his players and his program.  It's 100% the right play on his part...  it's just a bad look for us.

If there is one player, you don't have to go to the pro day, you can have a private workout when it is convenient.

Good counterpoint.  I was just thinking about the proximity to Corral's pro day and figured it would be a good gesture to build that relationship with Coach Prime and his program.  He is and will be making waves in college football for years to come.

Hell yeah. You don't know about James Houston?

James Houston IV.  Can cover deep, play every LB position and play the run and pass at the DE position. Better than Luvu, Burns, and Reddick. Hybrid player. Scouts should have been there for him alone. Saints like several HBCU players and they were the only NFC South team in attendance.

You want him now???

Thanks Panthers for not even doing your homework for a player who works perfectly in the 33 Stack and an instant upgrade over Luvu.

Better than Burns and Reddick? 😂 Okay...

If you're a college coach recruiting kids then yeah, your relationship with high school programs matters a LOT. I think it matters a whole lot less for NFL coaches. Now if I'm an NFL coach, I absolutely want good ties with the top programs simply as an avenue to get good info on their draft prospects but I honestly don't give a single fug about my relationship with low level programs. At the end of the day, if I want your guys I'll draft them. I don't need them to make the decision to come here.

I'm not sure that relationship matters as much as Prime wants it to.  I don't blame him for either feeling how he feels or taking advantage of a situation to get attention on his program but jeez.  These guys have busy, busy schedules right now and simply being near a pro-day does not mandatory attendance make, especially if there are no draft targets playing there.

    • Yes. I went to those games instead of selling In 2018, it was hot  as hell and the Panthers had some ‘entertainment on the side of the stadium, like a street fair…I have never seen so many seriously obese people, men and women, in cowboy leggings and shirts   I swear, it was traumatic  I said to my friend with me ‘dear god, Cam. In the name of all that is holy, please win  this home game, if you never win another one, to shut these people up.   I stayed in a hotel sat and Sunday near stadium. Sweet Jesus  obnoxious …of course, when they lose,, there isn’t one sign of cowboys anything   worst fans ever,  they will be in Charlotte in force because even at the escalated price in Charlotte, , it was still cheaper than attending in Jerry ville
    • Jags WRs have twice as many drops plus some as the next closest team.
    • Very true about Pennington but I don’t think anyone traded a haul to move up in the draft to get him, that’s what gets me about young. I mean essentially we gave up cmc and moore, our two best offensive players, one of which is arguably one of the best in the league. Gave them up for a guy who hasn’t shown any reason for us to give up the haul to get him. It’s year three and we are seeing the same mistakes he was making year one game one.
