That's why I think he's the best option. We don't dig the hole any deeper by keeping him. Baker Jimmy and anyone else is barely an upgrade and digs that hole.

How does getting Baker continue to dig that hole?  He’s only going to be signed for this year and is going to cost next to nothing in draft compensation.  If he sucks he’s gone at the end of the year and we will be in a position to draft a QB again, and if he’s good we’ll then we can pay him accordingly or franchise him.  The guy actually has talent, something Darnold wishes he had.  I’m very in on giving Baker a chance, the odds of him hitting are better then any of this drafts QBs imho.  Take the OT at 6…

Worst case we get Jimmy G who is a more than competent stop gap for a year or two, could be our Alex Smith till we find our long term answer.  Jimmy G can probably take this team to the playoffs in a weak NFC.

1. Is there a prospect that most scouts seem to be high on that you're incredibly low on (aside from Carson Strong, ofc)? What about a prospect that most are low on that you're very high on?
2. Strongest/weakest position groups in your opinion for this draft?
3. Any prospects that jumped out and caught your eye while reviewing a different player? Were you able to dive more into them and if so, what's your two-line summary?
4. Who was the most fun prospect for you to scout this year and why?

I don't know about most scouts, but Tariq Woolen a lot of people have going in the 1st/early 2nd and I have him as a late 3rd/4th round guy.

People are a lot lower on George Pickens than I am. I would take him in the first round.

In the second half of 2019, Darnold went 6-2.  He completed 61% of his throws for 243 yds/game.  He had 13 TDs, 4 picks.  And he was 22.  His "supporting" cast was Le'veon Bell (<800 yds for the year), Robbie Anderson (779/5) and Jamison Crowder (833/6).

That's the guy I want, at least for 2022. Maybe a real offense/coordinator can find that guy or even improve him.

If that guy shows up, we'll have a competitive team.  If not, we'll have a new coach next year and probably picking in the top 5.

Darnold has trouble when his line doesn't give him time to throw. So we traded for him and gave him a line that doesn't give him time to throw.

Any guess what type of grade teams have on Howell & Ridder? Could either one realistically go ahead of the consensus top-3/are there any teams really into them? I just find where they end up absolute wildcards and after, it may be quite some time before another QB is selected (Zappe, Glass, Coan, Strong, etc.).

Jermaine Johnson II is one of the quieter presumed high up picks--what's the deal with him?

Any fave LB for us? Muma or Tindall? Wyoming's LBs have been producing majorly and would love Muma.

And ditto on Sauce.  Aiden, Sauce, & G. Wilson are my fave players this draft.

Because he is going to win enough games to hurt our draft. I have zero confidence in a Baker Mayfield led Superbowl Championship.

 

Sam either gets it or gets us a top 5 pick he's win win.

Baker is lose lose.

All of this seems perfectly logical to me. Not sure if they would pick Cross at 6 if no trade was possible. I prefer Pickett at QB but Corral would fit as well although I really worry about his sustainability considering his size and playing style. He gives me the RG3 vibe and I don't mean that as a knock on either one's ability as they are talented, but injuries are a legitimate concern when evaluating players.

And as far as the Baker/JimmyG debate, I'd prefer JimmyG. He's a professional and he's proven that he can at least take a good team to the playoffs. He's a great placeholder imo. Baker is a wildcard and I don't like the way he carries himself. He may have talent but who knows what you're going to get both on and off the field and in the locker room. I'll take a less talented, professional adult.

TB was different. He’s a proven vet. Everyone basically thinks Darnold is terrible.

      Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.

      Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
