Matt Rhule doesn’t look happy.  Maybe he is just tired but there does seem to be something.  Also, he said all the best QBs in the NFL are old.  Over the age of 35.  That it’s an older players position WTF?

Rodgers and Brady were among the best before 35.  They just happen to still be playing lol.

He also conveniently ignored guys like Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson.

As far as his disposition, he looked even worse yesterday.  I honestly think its because his role has been minimized and he's been relegated to being just a hood ornament at this point.  I figure its because its had to have been a pretty big shot to the old ego to have gone from complete control over everything to having minimal input in everything as your job hangs by a thread.  In both pressers, its clear Scott is in the driver seat and is commanding the room.  Rhule is just there and even the reporters seem to sense it because when they address them, it tends to be directed to Scott first.

It’s a future 3rd rounder for a young QB with potential. We come out if this draft addressing two of our biggest needs with really only our first and what might as well be a fifth round pick and all we did is lose next year’s 3rd over it. That’s minimal damage all things considered. At worse we have a backup with potential on a cheap 3rd round contract. At best we have our new QB. Very low risk high reward pick. Even if it’s a high 3rd next year, those picks are far from sure things. Who was ours last year? Marshall and BC? Marshall might have been a 2nd…

The Panthers are having a phenomenal draft so far. I'm still in shock.

Felt like Fitt even read the room and added a don’t forget about Rhule handout.  Everyone we had Matt call Bill with what we wanted and he didn’t fold.  Good job Matt.  Matt can do things!

Our third is likely to be a top 5-10 in the 2023 draft. Why trade that? Why? For Corral? Is he better than Howell? Is he better than Strong? Is he better enough to be a starting QB in the NFL? If the answer to a single one of those questions is no, then it is a dumb trade.

Just fuging wait or trade a goddamn 4th for another 4th. Don't let go of 1st-3rd round draft picks. That is the meat of the draft.

They believe he is better than Howell and Strong and, TBF they aren't alone.  Howell and Strong were regularly listed 5th and 6th QB and Corral was often in the top 3 depending on what draft network you were looking at.

We used:
a 2023 pick 65 at 265 points (assuming we come in 32nd)
and a 2022 pic 137 at  37.5 points.

For a total of  402.5 draft points for Corral, equivalent to pick 49-50... mid-late second round.

The real question is, is Corral worth a mid second round pick?  We're going to find out.

Its like that moment when you are a kid and sit on your parents lap and they let you hold the steering wheel of a parked car in your driveway and you think you are driving.

Out of curiosity, what is the point total if we trade them next year’s 4th instead? Or if we’re a 8-win team with say, a mid-round 3rd?

Man, there sure are a lot of extra salty UNC fans in here

i think howell is the safer pick. has less risk of flaming out and will likely be solid for a long time. carroll has a very high ceiling, but could also be gone before we have a chance to take a 5th year option on him.

IMO, he isn't enough better than Howell or Strong to waste that pick on.

    • Not sure if they are happy but realize they can’t upgrade everything this year and are content with the group
    • Bryce among the 7 players Mark Ross of NFL.com guarantees will get better this season. Today, I am identifying seven players who I guarantee will improve on their 2024 output in the 2025 season. Young took tremendous strides in 2024 after returning to the starting lineup in Week 8 following his benching. He looked far more comfortable in his return and produced with consistency, as he threw for 2,104 yards with 15 TDs and six INTs in the final 10 contests. Most important perhaps is Young's confidence grew immensely down the stretch, leading Carolina to either a game-tying or game-winning drive in six of those games. Now he enters his second season in Dave Canales' system with his best supporting cast to date. The Panthers drafted wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan eighth overall to pair with Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette, who I also believe is poised for a breakout campaign this fall. The 18th-ranked rushing attack from a year ago added Rico Dowdle to complement Chuba Hubbard, giving the team a pair of 1,000-yard rushers. The Panthers have taken the necessary steps to ensure Young's third season will be the best of his career, and now it's up to him to not only continue to grow as a player but prove why he was worthy of being taken No. 1 overall in 2023. I believe that's what he will do. https://www.nfl.com/news/which-nfl-players-will-improve-in-2025-c-j-stroud-deebo-samuel-among-guaranteed-risers
    • While it's fair to question how impactful a player's relationship with a coach is (especially if someone has questions regarding said coach), it's important to also evaluate the difference between the players here. Jordan Fuller was pick #199 in the 6th round while Justin Simmons was #98 in the 3rd round. Jordan Fuller might have gotten a Super Bowl ring while he was with the Rams, but he got it while on the IR. Justin Simmons, on the other hand, is a x2 Pro-Bowler (2020, 2023), x4 second-team All-Pro (2019, 2021 - 2023), and was the NFL co-leader in INTs (2022). Simmons has also fallen off in the last couple of seasons though, grade-wise. He very well might not be that same player, which could be why the Falcons have elected to replace him with Fuller. As far as getting the best out of what he has, asking him to produce with a starting DL of A'Shawn Robinson (63.56% of the defense's snaps), LaBryan Ray (51.48%), and Shy Tuttle (50.08%) isn't reasonable. Wonnum only played in 8 games, but had the second most % of snaps (37.27%) at EDGE behind Clowney (53.53%). The second-string DL based on snap % was... and don't read this if you just ate... Charles Harris (34.48%), DeShawn Williams (27.67%), and Nick Thurman (19.7%). The second-string EDGEs based on snap count would be DJ Johnson (32.27%) and Cam Gill (18.14%). With the investments made in the run defense this season though, especially on the defensive line, it's more than fair to demand a complete turn around from last season.
