I'm not saying he wasn't worth the pick, what I am saying is that those thinking he will develop into our franchise QB probably will be let down.  If Corral at minimum turns into a solid QB2, then it's worth the 3rd rounder.  I'm just not holding my breath he'll ever be a legit QB1.  Remember, Will Grier also had his own Huddle groupies after he was drafted thinking with development Will would eventually be starting caliber.  That experiment was short lived.

Its actually a 3rd and 4rth

Its ok for fans to be optimistic about a player like Sam Darnold, but the real issue was the coaching staff making him the sole heir to the QB position for absolutely no reason.

But here's the rub :

I was a Jets fan before coming here so I was fooled by the Jets suckitude masking Sam's Suckitude, making me believe it was ALL the Jets suckitude making Sam suck, basically.

Now without that excuse, Sam showed me how dumb I was in believing that last season.

And I'm not going to allow myself to be fooled again.

I get where you are coming from and there are definitely two theories on developing these young QBs. One being what you are saying and throw them out there and let them learn as they develop because our team isn’t going to be a playoff team as it sits with Darnold. The other is to sit back and let them learn the mental aspect of the game. Let our new OL gel and learn to play together for a 5-8 weeks or so while bringing in Corral for a couple plays here and there to learn the speed of the game and then play him when our team is more stable and he is more ready mentally.
Also if we have a top 5 pick and Corral hasn’t had much playing time, a 3rd round QB shouldn’t stop us from drafting our guy next year. Let Corral develop in a great backup with upside or even trade him.

I agree with both of you in part.

A rookie qb has to show in camp and practice that he can run with the 1's before I would start him. And then it would have to be due to the starter costing us games or injured.

Reason being the goal is to win and maximize the talent on the team.  If the current starter is winning in practice and in games you can afford to let the rookie learn more of the playbook.  He will practice against an nfl defense gaining experience with every snap.

If the rookie is not number 2 by the 1st game of the season you start scouting qb's. But I wouldn't wait to see if Corral is the guy anyway.

Personally I would have multiple scouting reports on every qb coming out next season already.  Because I'm taking one in the next draft regardless.

If Corral can show he can run the offense with the 1's they would be absolute fools not to play him for a plethora of reasons.   Rhule has to know trotting Darnold out there for 6-8 games is like signing your death warrant.  He will not recover from that

I agree. That's point I'm trying to get across between the develop or start immediately crowd.

Corral determines if he starts or not by how much of the playbook he can absorb and how he manages against our defense.

They are not going to throw a 3rd round rookie out there if he can't beat our 3rd team defense.

That's just asking to be fired.

Corrall is not Grier. No one ever talked seriously about him being a starter. There really was nothing in his play that would suggest that he would be anything more than a back up and the only reason he was selected was because Hurney liked his interview. No one else would have likely drafted him until in much later rounds, if at all.

Meanwhile, Corrall has plenty of dynamic qualities that can translate into the pro game. Don't get hung up on this whole "he wasn't drafted until the third round" thing. The guy has legit potential as a starter and he's definitely worth giving him a shot.

I've said this before, lumping him with Grier just because both were selected in the third is at best unfair and at worst lazy. Expectation is/was vastly different between the two, as is their talent, as is their potential.

If he is a letdown, then he is a letdown. But if he turns into a legitimate starter/franchise QB then great as well.
Never was a fan of Grier. Watched his college tape and wasn’t impressed. Corral on the other hand has raw, potentially elite traits that are hard not to get excited for.
We’ll see what happens.

Im just glad they did something to get me excited for the season. Sorry, but just drafting a LT wasn't gonna cut it even tho it was a good pick. Nothing galvanizes a fanbase like finding out if you have a new franchise QB and following corrals rookie year to see if that comes to fruition is excitement enough.

Once again, I feel like I should apologize for even participating in that s--t.  🤦‍♂️

I'm glad you made me wrong and stuck around. Sadly, I don't think it is going to go well for you.

Welcome to Jets 2.0.

Our staff had a day one grade on him. They are expecting more than a backup out of him.  I’m not saying they are right, but I expect him to replace Sam before the season is over because Sam might not even be a solid backup.

I am not going to calibrate by our staff's standards because they have proven conclusively that they have no fuging idea what they are doing.

He's a third rounder, so I have no intentions of saddling him with 1st round expectations. If he falls flat on his face as a player, I will gripe about the 3rd rounder and skewer the coaches but I am not gonna get upset at a 3rd round draft pick QB for not ending up being a franchise player.

If we weren't taking Howell then Corral was my #2.

I had two QBs in this draft as day one ready, Corral was one.

I'm oddly excited about this. Putting him on the bench would be a kill joy.

He and Strong can play now imo.
