Giants could have severely altered our draft trajectory

So this is another bit from Rapoport, this one regarding the Giants picks at five and seven...

Per Rap Sheet, New York knew they wanted Evan Neal and Kayvon Thibodeaux, but they took them in the order they did for a specific reason.

The Giants believed that if they took Neal first, teams would run to the Panthers with trade offers to move up and get Thibodeaux. Evan Neal wasn't expected to generate the same response, so had they taken him first, the Panthers might have gotten a load of good trade down offers.

Would they have taken any of them? With a highly coveted guy like Ekwonu on the board, I'm not so sure. Personally, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

But it makes you wonder what might have happened.

Is there an even better scenario you could imagine?

Yeah, that was the big predicament.  The Giants taking Thib likely saved us from taking Pickett or Penning in a trade down.  Do wonder what type of offers would come that would seem jucier than just taking our top-rated offensive prospect in the draft.

I am very thankful that it turned out the way it did. Alternative scenarios would likely not have gone as well as the way it ultimately played out

It was a good move for the Giants.  The risk of losing Thibodeaux was much higher than losing Neal to us.  Plus had we taken Neal they still had Cross and Icky to choose from.  So basically by taking Thibodeaux they couldn't lose. 

It also didn't hurt that much of the pre draft chatter was we will trade down.

I think the big offers were for the CB that went 3 and 4. I was KT supporter even with all his work to kill that. He did look tiny....... Glad for Icky. I get the Ian report, I agree with the panthers results too.

Even if we took Neal, they'd have gotten Ickey.

They ended up with two damn good players though.

Only better scenarios I can think of is a Herschel Walker level trade for Cmac, or Fitty pulls a Draft Day type trade.

Confirms they actually had Neal rated higher of the two even though they took Thibodeaux first.

Horse hockey. If they had taken Neal, we would still have taken Ickey. If they had taken Ickey, we would have taken Neal.

Whatever. I could not be happier with how it worked out. I’m about positive we were dialed in on either Ickey or Neal however it would have played out. And getting Corral in the 3rd is just icing on the cake.

Nobody said we wouldn't have.

We would have gotten offers though. And if one of them has been a crazy offer, who knows?

This doesn’t make sense because I don’t believe for a second we would have walked away from a chance to draft Icky

I’m glad they got scared, I’d have been mildly annoyed if they took Ickey, I preferred him to Neal and it wasn’t close.

I’m just glad there’s a pretty good possibility we finally found Jordan Gross’s replacement.
