25) Carolina Panthers

The Panthers didn’t have much to go on in the 2022 NFL Draft, so their standing in the NFL Power Rankings was probably always going to remain static. Ikem Ekwonu was a pick of necessity that lined up with great physical talent. Replacing Cam Erving was and should have been priority No. 1 for the team. They moved back into Round 3 to grab Matt Corral, who can quietly sit and learn behind Sam Darnold for a season.

28. Carolina Panthers (29)

The Panthers have their own bridge veteran vs. rookie battle in Sam Darnold vs. Matt Corral. They did upgrade their offensive line and will hope their offense can be more efficient overall with Ben McAdoo, regardless of who's QB. The defense has got some playmakers, but it needs to come together better.

The franchise is looking to rebound from three straight seasons of 11 or more losses. The talk was that the Panthers were in the market for a quarterback in the draft and they wound up getting one in the third round in Mississippi’s Matt Corral. North Carolina State tackle Ikem Ekwonu was the club’s first-round pick. Free agency netted safety Xavier Woods and veteran offensive linemen Austin Corbett (Rams) and Bradley Bozeman (Ravens).

And last, but not least, some Super Bowl Odds...

31. Carolina Panthers (+10000)

The Panthers are a mess. They took Matt Corral in the third round, forming an ugly quarterback duo with Sam Darnold. Carolina has won just 10 games in the last two years, and it's hard to see much changing in 2022.

I really don't think we are "a mess".  With average or better qb play, I think we could be around .500 and maybe a wild card.

The problem is, in a worst case scenario, our qb situation is the same as 2010 with a weak incumbent and a mid rd rookie who may not be ready or may never be ready (see Jimmy claussen).  If we have poor qb play, we may well be picking top 5 in 23.

However, if Corral is the real deal, he could be a major cap bargain for 4 years.  That can lead to an immediate window like Seattle had with wilson.  I believe corrals total contract is not much more than 5 or 6 million over 4 years.  It's easy to build a talented roster when the qb position is that cheap.  Obviously darnold will be off the books for 3 of those years.

They probably aren’t that off. We still have Rhule, our OC is known for being a jackass, our DC is on life support and his defense is good until it matters.

Corral is a 3rd round QB in a shallow draft, Darnold is still taking snaps for a while. We are a 7 win team max.

Every year the past 3-4 years during the off-season we get super excited and think we are world beaters but we never really solve real issues and the season goes to poo and everyone is super toxic by December.

We also lost some important defensive pieces.

Our OC was so bad at his job...he got a head coaching job out of it.
