Jeremy Fowler on Panthers QB search

Recommended Posts

- Panthers engaged in trade talks with Browns on day 2 regarding Baker Mayfield however he didn't get the sense the Panthers were enthusiastic about the possibility

- Baker was open to Panthers but more of an "anywhere but Cleveland" perspective

- Panthers were much more intrigued with Matt Corral and also liked Sam Howell

- Matt Corral underwhelmed in interviews with multiple teams

Corral had the lowest Wonderlic score of any QB in this class he's probably a dumb dumb

Well actually he said he probably didn't fill it out right. If you skip one and don't come back to it, all the ones after it are counted wrong is what I read. That's a dumb way to grade a test.

I’d like tO hear more about the “underwhelmed” part of his interviews. Maybe the person asking the questions was underwhelming?

I’ve done job interviews where I wasn’t blown away from the person asking me the questions. I’ve also left job interviews thinking that person I talked to was a condescending asswipe.

Has anyone heard of the type of questions they ask these guys?

are you gay?

lol some real Sigmund Freud type of poo from these meat head NFL executives

I don’t think that’s correct. I may be mistaken. I took a wonderlic like ten years ago and did ok on it. Not showing off and not falling behind. I think it was like the SATs where you can just skip a question. The tricky part is you only get like 10 mins to answer as many as you can correctly

Well, you're probably right and Corral was full of it, though the Wonderlic still apparently misses the mark if you look at some of the QBs who scored similarly.

Part of me is saying there's no shot those are actual questions asked.

Part of me knows that's probably at least some of the questions asked. Lol.

Whew, I just looked his up and 15 is absolutely alarming, I just did one and got 30 and at least 20 of those were easy questions. It is true that if you skip one its doesn't award a point so better to guess than to skip.

Not really trying to be pessimistic but does anyone here actually think this kid is going to be really good or decent for that matter? Or are they just happy he isn’t Sam Darnold?

I am very underwhelmed with this class and I had Corral tied with Howell for 4th best in the group this year.

    • summary: "let's talk about your draft, what did you think about Freeling" Dan:   guys with a huge upside, can come in and compete to start.  High ceiling "he does what for your offense?" Dan:   it's hard to find left tackles, guys that big and athletic.  We have Icky coming off an injury, we signed Walker, I believe your offensive line can never be too strong.  If we're going to win the game, it's gotta be up front on both sides of the ball, so we make a point of emphasis on making both sides of the front as strong as possible. "how many mocks did you see Monro falling to you." Not many times, left tackles are gonna go a lot earlier than when we took him.  We want to add the best player, in free agency or the draft"  that's our philosophy, to get the best players possible. "Hunter and Brazzell." Dan:  we followed the board.  Lee we felt very highly of him , super strong.  Brazzel so flexible and loose, can open the verticle.  Will Lee we held in high regard. "you take a look at your receiver room, Coker, my goodness, your offensive rookie of the year in Tet.  Lost Rico, but there is Jonathan Brooks. " Brooks coming off two knee injuries, he worked his way back, looking great, fully healthy, will help in pass and run game.  Icky, not sure when he's coming back but we're excited about both "plan on extending Bryce" we'll keep talking, will keep internally.  We believe in him, has such a great grasp of Canales and offense, has improved every year. "he's clearly come back from the benching, the arrow is trending up, where does he feel" Bryce knows where we stand with him, when and if a deal gets done, he knows we feel great with him, we'll get something done at the right time. "if this a prove it situation?" everyone in the building has to prove it, has to earn it. Tmac was everything we wanted, his work ethic, he's so big and talented, but he puts the work in, and is a great teammate. "your level of expectation, the building's level of expectation for 2026 "our goal is to win the division every year, we know we have to earn it.  we have to put the work in every day, proving it on the practice field, and our  guys know that." "schedule" we haven't opened at home in 2 or 3 years.  We love prime time games, hope we get some "
    • this one is gold:     Bryce has a cult inside the Panthers fanbase that has truly developed some NPC hivemind. I'll never understand how he's captured the true essence of the casual fan like that.
    • "everybody has to earn it, heading in the right direction, feel great about him, get it done at the right time"     Mother fuger
