Scott Fitterer "best players will play"

Hopefully Scott and the coordinators force the decision on the final roster. Not sure how the game day inactive lists are gonna go, but Rhule might be at the point where he'll delegate everything except his job/salary to anyone in hopes of fielding a good team. Rhule could still end up being the obvious weak link in the whole situation but at least we're set up for interim HC's now. Tepper played nice in his pressers but we're obviously set up for cutting Rhule if he remains inadequate

To be fair, even in GM centric operations, head coaches still control the depth chart.

I do but in to the idea that Fitterer had increased influence over the offseason personnel process this year. Have a hard time imagining him making playing time decisions though.

Matt Rhule said this many times…this is pro football the best play regardless of contract or tenure with the team

He surely appreciates the tenure of former college players and coaches regardless of their ability to perform at an NFL level. He doesn't care about our team, he just lucked out on a job and is gonna wear it out until he gets fired

It seems like a common sense statement, but a recent interview by Scott Fitterer and the tone in which he talks about the best players getting to play regardless of any other factors such as pay or seniority is truly hopeful.

It also signals that Scott has been anointed to have full control of the roster in all but the title as Rhule may stil have "final say", but given his failure in this area and being on the hot seat, I think he's deferring to Scott  more than anyone realizes.

Not sure what you're saying.

Fitt said the best player will play, so Fitt has more power?
Sooo Fitt decides who plays now?
How does this translate to who controls the roster?

It was collaborative last year.  Its collaborative this year.
Rhule still has final say on the roster, and his contract hasn't changed.  I don't see Fitt deciding who will play.

If you are in a situation where a FO is literally forcing players on a coach, it's time for someone to go.

Last 2 years reeked of some Chip Kelly BS. Didn't take the Eagles 7 years to win the super bowl once they got rid of him and his total control of the roster demand

He's just repeating what the coach and team's philosophy is. What's the issue here?

Remember the story that the Panthers were considered the least "merit-based" team in the league when it came to playing time? Likewise the saying that we had guys starting on our roster who wouldn't even make a team elsewhere?

That's why something like this gets said.

    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
    • I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
