I'm all for a big man find the good weight but 5 lbs? IDK, Brown just looks like a guy with talent but not used in the best way to maximize his effectiveness.

It's the dregs of the off-season. The team media has to have something to write about. Reminding folks of the former top 10 pick who was promising as a rookie and had a down season last year is the type of stuff you see this time of year.

I know I just wish we were talking about how we use him and why he performed better when he did and what we are going to do about it. The weight thing just sounds like noise compared to actual substance even if 5 lbs can help big guys body stress in the NFL.

Brown needs more power and stoutness to his game. Not sure how leaning out accomplishes this

Fairly simple here.  Fat does not equate to strength.  Let's say Derrick Brown lost 20lbs of fat but added 15llbs of muscle netting a total of 5 lbs weight loss....IMO much better then just 20lbs of fat without 5lbs of weight loss.

No. I'm saying that teams really don't care about listed weights and when key players show up overweight the number that eventually comes out is likely significantly south of the actual weight. Anyone who thinks Jenkins didn't tickle four bills wasn't paying attention. The dude got HUGE yet I never saw the Panthers as an organization ever admit it and why would they? What's the competitive benefit? These aren't professional fighters. They're not having to hit a weight limit where they're stepping on the scale in a televised setting.

If the Cardinals are admitting Jones showed up at 280, the actual number was probably higher.

I remember WR Roy Williams spent most of his career listed at 212.  That only just because he showed up at the combine at 212 so he could move better.  Years later Roy said that he plays around 230-235 and hadn't actually played a game at 212 since he was a junior in high school.  Mike Martz challenged him to try to get down to that weight again, and he got down to around 215 and had his best season as a pro.  I think he was listed around 215 for the rest of his career, even though he was playing heavier than that after that season.

An experienced lifter like Derrick Brown is only going to be able to "lose 20 lbs of fat" while "building 15 pounds of muscle" if he's on steroids.

Regarding the Burns part, isn't 255 still a little light for a DE?

Not every DE is a 6-6, 290 lber.

He can make up for being light in the ass with technique and athletic ability.

We just need him to get better technically. If we can do that, he will be an elite pass rusher. He has all that potential.

Images are attached in this thread if you read through it, and you can also go check for yourself. Here is the top 8: image.png.da844da8fc6b892a2e5185cbd59530c3.png

Joey weighed 269 at the combine, Nick at 266, Garrett at 272.

You telling me that all of them are playing around 255, after years in the NFL?

    • You don't have to go through every game and point it out as we are discussing his GWDs. You specifically called out that he had GWDs because he is the reason the team is always playing from behind. We looked at those eight games and only Miami stands out as one where he put the team in a hole to begin with. You've added the Atlanta game where the team didn't score a TD but only kicked field goals. You're not trying to change what we're discussing to fit your feelings re: Bryce. That's not necessary. We are discussing GWDs per the thread topic. We have also shown that your opinion that the team has had to always come back due to Bryce was proven to be false as was the claim that "minus one game" was his fault. Appealing to emotion afterwards by trying to broadly paint the rest of the losses in the same way just doesn't work. Where in the Hell did you get that the entire point is the suggestion that BY is more clutch than Jake and/or Cam? It's giving something to be positive about in that Bryce has shown the ability to comeback and win games despite the calamity that might have taken place to put them behind to begin with. How is that blasphemy?
    • His run blocking is making up for his negatives in pass blocking right now.  He’ll still have pass blocking hiccups, but if they think he’s a critical part to the locker room and team construction, you probably re-sign him and try not to overpay.
    • Callahan is gone McDaniel and Taylor are happening Stefanski is a growing possibility. I mean, they need to get an offense going eventually.  Could see Morris as a surprise one.
