Man, it's a good thing these preseason games are full of well game planned, maximum effort players!!!

It's been a hot minute since I posted mostly due to the fact that I wanted to enjoy my summer 😃

Huddle gunna Huddle.  Overreact to EVERYTHING.

Let's not get all wrapped up in preseason performances.  Let's look at things after the first 4 games of the season.  I'd call this all rehearsal instead game play.

I agree with what you are trying to say but the maximal effort part...? We may have some starters guaranteed a roster spot going easier but bubble players or anyone with something to prove?

I’m gonna call bull on some of the offensive line grades. Corbett was pretty good outside of the one play he got Baker killed, which completely tanked his grade for some reason. Meanwhile Michael Jordan was out there getting wrecked against their backups as well as their starters. He should be fighting for a roster spot, no idea how he’s starting still. Him and Elflein are clearly terrible and are significant downgrades over the guys on our bench that were presumably brought in to start (Icky, Bozeman).

What is Michael Jordan's deal here? Every time he is mentioned, I never hear one thing good or even marginal...? I hear constantly about him being beaten like a drum. Can we not find any guy out there any better than him at all?

It will take a while for them to all gel as well and that's assuming Rhule doesn't keep shuffling them.  Icky, BC, Bozeman, Corbett, and Moton is a pretty talented OL Erving and Elf are overpriced backups but have been serviceable backups in the past (especially Erving).  Mays should provide additional depth a the guard spots if needed and maybe he can develop into a starter, Brown is simply depth as well.  It's as decent as a lineup as we have had in a while.  We just need to draft a big school OL in the 5th/6th round of every draft (especially is Mays plays as well as he has looked so far).

I can't sign off on the "as decent a lineup as we have seen in a while." That may be the case or it may still be bad.

I want Bozeman and Corbett to be good signings but I need to see the play. I want Ekwonu to be an elite LT but I need to see the progression. I want BC, Mays, etc to be good backups or even potential starters but I need to see it.

OL is a unit they just have to make be believe first. I can't give them the benefit of the doubt as many years as we have made mistakes there.

They're already on the team! Corbett, BC, Mays, and probably Deonte Brown. Hell, Pleasants wasn't half bad at RT, we should take a look at him at RG depth.

They have the talent and Bozeman/Corbett have proven they can play the position on other teams.  Ickey was considered a high first round pick by most analysts and pretty on point to where we drafted him.  If all of these players underperform it falls under the Panthers more than the players IMO.  Moton is proven, Bozeman/Corbett have already proven to the league they can handle the job and Icky (though he could bust) has been viewed as an elite talent at the position.  If we have all this talent and still struggle then it falls under execution which would mean coaching IMO.

Bozeman and Corbett are also coming from very strong units. It's possible they aren't as individually as strong as they were with those units. I tend to think they are better than average players but I will have to see it here first. They wouldn't be the first underwhelming OL signings we have made in the past decade.

Moton is the rock. Hopefully Icky becomes the hard place. Just gotta figure out what happens between them.

If we just get 1-2 successes from all that shuffling, it's still progress. Low bar but I just need a win. We had absolutely nothing to show for an entire offseason on the OL in 2021. Can't have a repeat of this.

I agree regarding the oline. But Darnold always should have been shown the door he has no future regardless and tanking isn't a real thing not now after recent claims of coaches being offered added financial incentives to lose.

Darnold is Baker’s backup this year, while Corral gets acclimated to the NFL.  Next year, Corral gets his chance to start.

The problem is Darnold’s contract.  He’ll stick somewhere as a backup next year, but under a more cap friendly deal.  He may have a career as a decent backup, if the definition is to fill in for 2-3 games.  YMMV
