meh

not worried about the sacks, he generally gets rotated out of passing downs. our run stop has been solid and he's a part of the unit

This…he wasn’t seen as a serious pass rusher when we drafted him either.  More of a hope in that regard than an expectation

Look at our cap and our QB room.

The post I was responding to asked for “any” evidence that Fitt could be a competent GM. Hard to argue against our improvement along the OL which was one of the weakest spots of our team.

When I look at the QB room, I see that we’ve taken shots to get it right. We’ve missed on those shots, but at least we move on quickly in search of our next franchise QB.

We’re in decent shape with our cap. A few guys we can move on from in the off-season to add room. No really bad contracts beyond next year that we’re stuck with.

Being a good rotation guy is ok in this league. People will clamor about his 2nd round status but he will get a second contract either with the panthers or someone else.

Normally I'd agree, but we got a very similar rotational run-stopping DE in Henry Anderson for essentially vet minimum late in the offseason who has arguably been out-performing YGM.  I do think he'll probably get a second contract somewhere, but I also think these types of players don't appear to be in particularly high demand.

The thing that I like about Fitterer is that he doesn't just rest on his hands, and is always opportunistic when it comes to upgrading the team. I also like that he learns. He screwed the pooch with Darnold by giving too much, but then he got Mayfield for very little. We were in a bind after the Darnold trade, but no one's gonna lose sleep over a 5th (if it comes to that, which is up to Rhule). Moreover, people want to cry about the Henderson trade, but CJ is developing. Sure he's given up a couple of big plays which has led to some inconsistency, but I saw only one awful play. The other could have easily been judged as a tangling of feet. Even still, in my mind, he's playing like a third-rounder with upside. All the obvious improvements along the O-line have been mentioned. The LB play hasn't been bad. Both can be attributed to Fitterer to varying degrees. This is his second year, and I've been encouraged. Fitt may not have hit his stride yet--and I certainly don't believe that he's hit his ceiling, but he's above average in my estimation.

This is Hendersons 3rd year.  You ready to pick up his 5th year option next year?

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
